I'm sure you've read his stuff already, being that he's highly popular...  But anything by Tom Robbins, esp.  Jitterbug Perfume, and Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates.  Also, only because it hasn't been mentioned yet-  Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was a good read.  For some deeper insight into language (though surely this is subjective material and I don't fully agree with it all...), read The Language Instinct by Stephen Pinker...  Hmm...  Robert Anton Wilson's material...  Of course Mckenna's stuff...  The good ol' drunken poetry of Charles Bukowski (how the hell did that get in here?  I love him, though) esp.  "Erections, Ejaculations, Exhibitions and General Tales of Ordinary Madness"  'Spose this isn't for everybody, though...  Have fun!

That is a wonderful book with quite the twisted plot. Anyway I have been reading Douglas Adam's "Hitchhiker's Guide" series. These books are easy reading that keep you laughing from the irony. It is amazing some of the things this man thought of to use as fiction.
