Unfolding Nature Shop: Unfolding Nature: Being in the Implicate Order

Scientism
    #750391 -

What spawned this was an article of Micheal Shermer's in the June 2002 issue of Scientific American.

It's just one dogma or another... but I think the dogmatism associated with scientism is particularly dangerous. These folks hide behind the cloak of "reason." They too, won't admit to their own ignorance... "Science WILL prove _______"

So, I guess if I were to name a doctrine that I rigidly (hehe) adhere to, it would be Anti-Dogmatism.

Read nothing into my words but the definitions.

Seems like a good philosophical base. Do you have a book of Anti-Dogmatism I can follow and use to preach it to others?

Books? Sure, I plan to have books, videos, audio tapes, DVDs, posters, pamphlets, television shows, Choy-Chez, monthly magazines, and maybe a movie.

The sole purpose of Anti-Dogmatism is to erase people's creativity and then give them an easy-to-follow step-by-step guide to life. I mean, c'mon, LIFE ISN'T THAT HARD. It's totally easy. I can't believe there wasn't a simple 10-item list that could tell us what NOT to do in order to achieve perfection (or the Edgar Morris face ). As soon as everyone adopts Anti-Dogmatism as their way of life, the world will truly be perfect. Every person will fill their position they are given in life, according to who their parents are, and it will be so SWELL!! No more doubts to bug us. We're perfect! No questions asked, we got OUR system. Then we can work on fixing up the afterlife.

So, I guess both of us are smart asses...

Sorry to get you off track there. I do think a greater claim to ignorance is in order for most of us... to retain a sense of philosophical and scientific agnosticism with a principled self correcting Anti-Dogmatic mindset does make sense. That's my view from the saddle.

So is it safe to say that not everyone can have the experience of clarity-doubt that we have? Are they unable or afraid? Are they lazy?

To many, security (even if illusory) is paramount to truth. Hence the need to belong to a dogmatic group and to spit on other dogmatic groups so as to reinforce the "correctness" of your choice.

Yeah, nice... not that you need a pat on the back or anything.

You guys should check out my avatar closely. I know it's hard to read, but open it into a new window. It's pretty pertinent.
