How much money to save up to relocate/move to the Bay Area?

So I just finished my degree in Computer Science and I've been looking for a job. I'm really considering on moving to the bay area or the pacific north west for the, uhm, weather. how much money do you think i should have before i pack up everything and go?
I've been hitting up random co. on craigslist for interviews in the bay area, but it seems its pretty difficult to get an interview when you're a few hundred miles away.
any tips from those who have been able to do this?

1k isn't shit, especially in California. I'd have at least the money for a few months of rent, food, and living expenses saved. Plus any money you may need for emergency things (car repairs, broken items, ext.) I'd say around 3-5k would be a good safety net, depending on what kind of place you're looking to live in.

MINIMUM 4k IMO. Rough rule of thumb, you want 3 months of rent, food, utilities, etc, while looking for a job to ensure you don't have to ship yourself back to your parents basement.

To move to Cali? I'd want 5k in my pocket minimum. That place is expensive.
...and bring a car...

The Bay Area has excellent public transportation services, you don't really need a car here.

I totally agree with that... it's expensive for me and I'm 2.5 hours south of SF in Monterey and I've heard it's worse up there. If you can set up interviews ahead of time that would probably be your best bet. It's pretty much impossible to get a job without being here. If you can, I'd recommend planning a trip to come out one week to really pound the pavement, as that would be your best bet.
Also, you may want to consider looking for work in San Jose... it's not as amazing as SF, but I'm sure there are more jobs (and they're increasing every day). There are a lot of big companies in the area in general, being Silicon Valley and all, so with a little work you should be able to find a job. Also, I find that indeed.com is a great site for job posts if craigslist isn't working.
Good luck!

thanks i have alittle under 2k and was looking on craigslist for rooms to rent and it seems the minimum is about 700 for a room.
and as far as the interview process are going, it seems there are multiple stages, i got a call from a co. in fremont but they wanted to do it next week. I was considering just taking a flight out there over the weekend and finding a place with wifi and chilling there for a month, but I dont think i'd be able to find a gig there within a month. and the company that wanted me to come in to take some programming test emphasised a drug free environment in their job posting lol. And they also mentioned the whole interview process would take about 2 weeks.
i was thinking of relocating after i have 3/4 interviews lined up within a week and then stayin there for a month and seeing how things pan out. If things dont work out i guess it would be back into the parents basement =(
