PES-A MCM (Moar Coffee Mono) with pics!

  • Cube Variety:

    PES-A (Multi-Spore) MS

  • Spawn:

    Yeasty Dark Rye Grain,
    100% colonized for over a month,
    Showed signs of Bacteria but seemed to recover
    It was exposed to excess ambient temps of 90°/96°
    Visible signs of Metabolites, but recovered well.

  • Substrate:

    1 Brick of Coco Coir, (8 Qts)
    3 Qts of Fine Vermiculite,
    2 Cups of Gypsum
    2 Cups of Perlite
    4 Qt jars of SCG (Spent Coffee Grounds)
    Actual Volume of SCG was approximately 35%-50% of Total Substrate

    Making it roughly a 1:3 or 1:2 Sub/Spawn Ratio












  • Light and Cycle:

    2700k 60watt regular bulb
    Standard 12/12 during the pinning stage

    After that the schedule fluctuated between a
    few hours a day and sometimes days without light.
    Sometimes an Off/On Pulse of light 2hrs On/ 2hrs Off
    Growth seemed to "explode" when I did this,
    Especially towards maturity.
    I watched a fruit body grow 3" in an afternoon

    Cold fruiting is slow enough as it is.

  • FAE:

    Pretty much the same schedule as the light cycle
    in terms of turning on the fan and manual fanning

  • Fruiting Temps

    65°/68° (Cold Fruiting)






  • Wet Weight:

    1,787g -68 for the trey = 1,719g = 60.63oz

    Projected Dry Weight

    6.06 oz Dry (Carry the decimal to the left one place)

    How much water did you add to the substrate? like 6 quarts? or more?

    I used 4qts (1 gallon) of water just like it says in Damions tek.
    The Coffee grounds are brought to field capacity before being mixed in
    so there isnt a need for more water and the extra qt of verm just keeps it airy and a tiny bit dryer.

    I would caution using this for a first try,
    only because it seems to be good form around here to do so.

    If you do try this I would strongly suggest
    paying very close attention to "proper" Pasteurization of the Coffee grounds.

    I mix in the perlite with the coffee, that way the perlite has some nutes.

    I never go above or below 150°f during pasteurization of the coffee grounds
    and I bring the internal temps up for a full hour or more and reset the
    timer for at least another hour.



    Most people will suggest 5%-10% Coffee grounds if you are going to use them.
    Thats pretty much all that is needed I guess to get your "N" (Nitrogen)Boost

    Coffee has a bad rep for contams,
    I personally havent experienced it so all I can say is proper past seems to be key.

    If it is your first time using Coir for a bulk tek, then I would leave out the perlite and coffee.

    just use Damion5050 Coir Tek
    If you want to add to it, just toss in 2 cups of gypsum and 3 qts of Edited:perliteVerm and you will be golden.

    Make your first go as easy as you can, get the confidence and taste of success first then make adjustments accordingly.

    haha, thanks, I wish that were true, well actually no I dont, I rather enjoy the wonder, it keeps me young and sharp, I loath the day I haven't anymore questions...:lol:
