Question about PDA and using flakes. (solved)

I know that you can use potato flakes instead of boiling potatoes, but is there any advantage to using fresh potatoes rather than of flakes?

I know that I had mashed potatoes the night before last and a piece of peel left in the sink had already turned black and started to mold. I have no idea what I am replying to tho, but flakes are pasteurized already. :shrug:

I guess the only advantage I could think of is if there were sodium or other additives in the flakes?

I have no idea if the sodium is an issue or not. But some times when you take a shortcut, you have to make a sacrifice. So I was wondering, is there any sacrifice to the agar's final texture, color or quality when using flakes?

i just recently started using the grocery store agar tek, 2 tblspoons of instant potato flakes, and 1 teaspoon of honey and mine came out perfectly fine..and my ape seem to love it :shrug:

There are no specific benifits of using one over the other. Potato flakes are easier to work with then preparing and boiling potatoes. However, if for what ever reason potato flakes can't be sourced then use boiled potato broth.
