From my library:

Of course there are many movies whoich refer to psilocybine intooxication, Work is a four Letter Word (David Warner and English Popsinger Chila Black) a man grows giant mushroms in a basement in England ad gets everyone gigleing, 1962.

Attacjk of the Mushroom PEople, a japanese movie based on Wassons shrooms and accidental ingestions of magic shrooms in japan, eventually the people turn into the mushrooms which make them laugh so much.

The famous shroom sequence in The Very BRady Special movie. where alice accidently gives shroom speghetti to mr Brady.

hmm i have never feed any animal shrooms are any psydelics... but you gotta think.. the animals doesn't have the info we have in are brains from media, tv, government, world, ect... which effects are trips...

ex... sum1 having a bad trip and seeing vampires, devils, warewolfs, ect... now i dout animals would .. but maybe they could have bad trips.... i would not know... but i do know trippin in the 2000's would be different from someone who would have tripped 1,000 years ago

but i will admit to geting my pet dog high off of cannabis... and dont tell me he doesn't like it... i have seen many people get their dogs/cats stoned, and the dog is fine..and actually (you can tell) likes it..i know my dog does... everytime i smoke he follows me..and even when i blow smoke to his face starts liking the air/smoke...

Why waste any amount of mushrooms on an animal? Just get them high, my cat seems to enjoy that.

This thread comes up every once in a while and as usual it gets heated because some people can't answer a question without martyring themselves as leaders of the Don't Harm Animals cause.  Yes its not right to do this to animals, but noone every suggested otherwise

At the end of the day WONKA is not suggesting that he wants to do this, just what are the consequences, it is a perfectly normal thing to wonder, given that the brain chemistry of animals may be different to that of humans.  This is also the explanation of why nobody wonders about babies, babies after all are just human like us (albeit different).

Some people do see the point objectively of course, so how about those who don't just take a moment to think rationally before abusing someone for what is an interesting thing to wonder.

i chilled with this little rat terrier/pitt bull yesterday and we were sitting around this dudes living room and the fuckin dog kept barking at whoever had the pipe. when the pipe came to me, the dogs owner said "he wants a hit, give it to him" so i blew a huge hit on the dog and he actually seemed to embrace the smoke and kept following the pipe around in a circle. we just sat there for like 2 hours watching the stoner dog walk from person to person, getting higher and higher. eventually he just layed on his back and started going WHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! in the most pleasurable tone of voice ive ever heard a dog have. the dog seriously loved it. I on the other hand, avoid getting my dog high altogether. He's much to physically powerful to be playing with his mind.....

Interesting question, to say the least. My limited understanding is that animals, except perhaps the high primates, lack any conceptual abilitites. That is, they can feel a sensation, determine if it makes them feel good or bad, and then they act accordingly by instinct. To a dog, a wooden chair can be smooth and a dog can understand smooth. To a human, a wooden chair can be smooth, feel smooth, and from that the human can infer that concepts such as "wooden chair" are smooth. If a human sees another wooden chair he will make the connection and assume smoothness as a characteristic of wooden chairs.

Even not considering the fact that non-human animals have much different brain structures than us, the conceptual issue would still arise. How could some cat have ego-death without an ego? Drugs that act on a less complex system may have similar effects(alcohol, pot) but since we hardly understand complex drugs like LSD and their effects on humans, I would assume that animals would have drasticly different effects, including no effect.

As far as personal experience goes I have only seen a dog and a fish go after beer bottles, but none have become addicts that I know of.

Fliqued, no they do not give their children shrooms. Did this bit of urban legend come form someone ina smart shop in Amsterdam perhaps. It is not true. But

Hopi Indians of America still teach their 12 and thirteen year old children how to masturbate when they come of age.

mj

ANd not all Mazatecs or shamans give their children shrooms. Only when they are in need of something medicinal and then the shaman seeks what herbal remidies the children need to get well.

Okay, thats one thing but those people are doctors with mission, a goal, and a purpose behind their research. They are not giving drugs to their pets to watch their cats and hamsters, etc, fall over in a confused state of being just for the fun of it. To try to justify this by saying that doctors do it all of the time is no excuse for animal cruelty.

People have been prosecuted with jail time for actually doing this, thinking it was cute.

people were also arrested for possessing those substances too.

some where even arrested today....

John, Have you ever heard of south american tribes giving new born babies a drink of ayahuasca? I think I read it in Narby's "cosmic serpent". Whether they give them enough to trip on I don't know.

Only in the wild, are some animals accustomed to indulging in native shrooms.

Giving a domesticated animal a psychedelic is somewhat cruel.
Most shrooms are toxic to cats and dogs anyways, if anything give 1/3 a dose of lsd to your dog. I did that and he was moving around goofy with the cheesiest grin on his face wagging his tail in circles

I cant remember which one,  but a member of the greatful dead would dose his horse and dog when he would come home from tour, and they'd go riding into the sunset! Or so I've heard, but sounds epic!
