that was taken from www.stainblue.com. Does this mean that there is DMT present in mushrooms? Could this be why some people report a trippy sensation when smoking shrooms. I'm pretty sure i'll get flamed for this but, I have smoke shrooms with some effect - tracers, distorted sounds, time shifts. Not a full blown trip, but trippy. Could the DMT in the shrooms have caused this?

DMT is present in psilocybes in very, very small amounts. But, through MAO Inhibition DMT may have a [miniscule] effect.

I doubt whether you would ever notice effects from DMT in shrooms - not even coupled with an MAOI. With DMT there tends to be two levels when you dose, that is hyperspace and nothing atall.
I don't know the concentration of DMT in shrooms but something like 25+mg (size of a pea) is required to reach hyperspace when smoking pure dmt extract.

well the miniscule amount of DMT that are in psilocybes could somehow aid in PRYING OPEN OUR THIRD EYES.

if the dmt is only 1 step away from psilocin, and 2 away from psilocyben, does that mean u could, i dont know the right word but maybe degrade the psilocin into dmt or add to it to get dmt?

Shrooms are widely regarded as orally active DMT. They'll take you to the same place DMT does only for longer. The brain really too interested in distinguishing between psilocin and DMT. If it looks pretty much the same it takes it into the receptors.

From what I've read, the amount of DMT in shrooms is insignificant---that is, not present in large enough quantities to be consumed by smoking unless you devised a way to smoke a LOT of shrooms absurdly quickly. It's a gross and pointless idea---DMT is available in much higher concentrations in other plant material.
In response to a couple of other comments: DMT is not orally active without the presence of an MAOI. Your brain may not really know the difference between psilocybin/psilocin and DMT, but your gut does. When eaten, the DMT never makes it to your brain.

DMT is indeed present in shrooms because both psilocine and psilocybine, the active ingrediants of shrooms, contain DMT. However, because your body's MAO (mono-amine-oxydase) mechanism kicks in when ingesting shrooms, you will not feel any effects of the DMT because your body renders it ineffective.
On the other hand, with smoking shrooms you do feel the effects of the DMT although I've heard you have to smoke a whole lot of them to have a normal trip--yuck!!
The better thing to do, if you are interested in a superpowered shroom trip along with the effects of the DMT, is to take a MAO-inhibitor first, such as Peganum Harmala (Syrian Rue). You can obtain the seeds legally for relatively cheap (like a 1/2 lb for under $10 or so) through several catalog mail order companies in the U.S. The result of ingesting, say around 1 gram or so of ground up Rue seeds, around 30-45 minutes before ingesting shrooms on an empty stomach, would effectively double or even triple your standard shroom dose. The DMT will definately be felt in addition to your normal shroom effects. A word of caution, however, it makes for a VERY strong trip. On your first time, i would definately cut back on your regular shroom dose so that you are not in for too big of a surprise. I didn't on my first time, and believe me, my trip was so strong that i thought for sure i was going to die. No kidding. Now i make sure everything is just right with set and setting before partaking on such a powerful combination. Believe me, you may go to outer space and then back again!! I might also advise reading up on this site about precautions to take with regard to MAO inhibitors as well for your own information. You can find some good sources for ordering some Syrian Rue seeds too. :) :) Happy Shrooming!!

Noticed the same types of patterns occuring over real objects when on medium mush doses that i do with small dmt doses.
