I'd be way down to see this.

My interest in Taoism is really piqued at the moment. I recently read The Secret of The Golden Flower, a Taoist (as far as I know) meditation guide. Highly recommended.

ah the Huangting jing

-A way of attaining qi-balance, sublimating the body-mind, and
  connecting to the Dao
-The inward focus of attention in a state of mind where ego-related
concerns and critical evaluations are suspended in favor of perceiving
a deeper, subtler, and possible divined flow of consciousness.
------
The point of meditation is balance/harmony (qi-balance).
Dao also can be understood in many different ways. In this context, it means naturalness. The dao in many ways refers to the wholeness, primordial energy. So in some ways, meditation allows you to be connected to the source of the universe.
Meditation is different from contemplation or critical thinking. By meditating, you are trying to transform yourself in a certain way. In many ways, the chinese didn’t distinguish between physical and psychological body. This way you can imagine yourself in a bigger, broader context.

--------------------------

1) Concentration
-One-pointedness of mind
…Complete control of attention and the absorption in a single object – a sound,
a visual diagram, a concrete entity, or the breath
… “Practitioners focus on breathing or the inner flow of qi and strive to gain a
balance and one-pointedness of mind, gathering their attention in stillness
so that they can be receptive to the purity of Dao.”
      (Kohn, Introducing Daoism, 138)
-----------------------------------------
1) Concentration

Guarding the One
…To focus their attention on one single object, defined as “the One.”
…The One: an abstract principle, a sense of power at the root of creation, a
point inside the body, a central constellation in the stars, or Lord Lao as
      present in the body
------------------------------------------
2) Observation
-a.k.a., insight, mindfulness, or awareness meditation
-It encourage openness to all sorts of stimuli and outside occurrences.

Sitting in Oblivion or Sitting and forgetting (Zuowang  坐忘)

(Zhuangzi 6.9)

Meditation

2) Observation
-a.k.a., insight, mindfulness, or awareness meditation
-It encourage openness to all sorts of stimuli and outside occurrences.

Sitting in Oblivion or Sitting and forgetting (Zuowang  坐忘)

(Zhuangzi 6.9)
A third day, Hui again saw (the Master), and said, “I am making progress.” “What do you mean?” “I sit and forget everything.” Zhongni (i.e., Kongzi) changed countenance, and said, “What do you mean by saying that you sit and forget (everything)?” Yen Hui replied, “My connection with the body and its parts is dissolved; my perceptive organs are discarded. Thus leaving my material form, and bidding farewell to my knowledge, I am become one with the Great Pervader. This I call sitting and forgetting all things.” Zhongni said, “One (with that Pervader), you are free from all likings; so transformed, you have no more constants . You have, indeed, become superior to me! I must ask leave to follow in your steps.”
---------------------------------------------------
Meditation

2) Observation
-a.k.a., insight, mindfulness, or awareness meditation
-It encourage openness to all sorts of stimuli and outside occurrences.

Inner Observation (neiguan 内觀)
-careful introspection of body
…the body as a microcosmic replica of the starry heavens above, full of palaces
      and chambers, gods and deities
… To realize one’s original cosmic nature and to be at rest in harmony with
      comic flow of energy
…Not to follow sensory impressions, make judgments, and develop critical
        evaluations
--------------------------------------------------
Meditation

3) Visualization
-The mental focus on a specific scene or sequence of events, such as energy
flows, deities, cosmic patters, or potential future events.
-It aims at opening the consciousness to more subtle levels, allowing the
powers of the unconscious to manifest themselves and brining new
    dimensions to the one’s life.
-The Body as a network of qi-storage areas and energy channels, a replica of
    nature and the cosmos

cunxiang 存想 (actualization and imagination):
…A form of intensified concentration to enhance the health and empowerment
        of the body
…Practiced widely in a variety of contexts

It does. I like his commentary, and I think Jung's opinion is important, but it really is only his opinion. And Wilhelm's commentary I think is even less significant than Jung's, though he was the translator. I strongly encourage you to first read the original text in its entirety, without the input from white guys. If it doesn't make any sense, read the commentary. All of it. Then go back and read the primary text, putting as much attention on it, and as little on the commentary, as possible. The primary text, though highly metaphorical, really is a powerful instruction on how specifically the mind can be reoriented and concentrated in order to create a new experience of life. Though this is of course subjective, I really do feel that I know exactly what it's talking about in many details, and many of its claims have been confirmed (if only briefly) in my own experience.
