the vikings are done for
    #13667299 -

as a franchise.

thats what I think.

they blew their load and got nothing to show for it. dome is ruined and contract is up.

motherfuckers are moving.

plus they single handedly lost me my fantasy superbowl shot. i was up 35 points with my opponent only having the bears defense left and all the shitty ass vikings had to do was not give up 8 turnovers. they could have given up 7... but no, they had to make that real heart felt effort of being down 26 points with a minute to go and fumble the ball one last time so I would lose by half a point.

I feel sorry for any vikings fan. even at the saints worst nothing ever looked so bleak for a franchise. how can you go on as a team consisting of old has beens with maybe another year of play in them and a handful of rookies that have zero hope of ever being anything but mediocre? last night was probably the worst performance I have ever seen by any professional sports team ever.

Worst ever?  Hardly.

The Vikes have loyal fans, they have that going for them.  I really don't see them moving the franchise, but I guess I wouldn't be shocked if they did.

The Vikings aren't going anywhere. They have one more year left
on their lease in the Metrodome. The dome is hardly ruined, they have
the technology to fix roofs nowadays.  The Vikings will get a new
stadium in Minnesota. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf has said that they would
be happy playing in an outdoor stadium, which would cost much
less. It will happen.

Sorry our 3rd string rookie quarterback and the absence of our star
running back cost you your fantasy superbowl shot.

ha, you guys are looking at a serious 10 years of rebuilding. you have absolutely nothing going for you except that the rookie qb didnt look bad. he has an arm on him.

i see 3 things happening that will be the inevitable downfall of the vikings:

1. the vikes had a few great draft picks. gerhart has promise, as does webb and harvin is awesome. they all got about 4 more years on their contracts and sidney rice is done after this year (or next, cant remember). with whatever used up vets on the team come back or at least stay arent going to be as cohesive as last year. berrian and AP probably have 1 more year of usefulness.

2. next draft the vikes are probably going to be forced to grab jake locker since he will be the best qb pick at 9th or 10th in the first round... which will most likely be a waste of a pick. or they are going to make some ridiculous pick trades to move up and grab someone better.... having almost the same effect as above.

3. with this combination the vikings will continue to land on the higher end of the losing record teams leaving them in a 5 year funk of landing at 10th-15th in the draft picks, thus diminishing their currency and trading away picks for duds that dont pan out until about 2015 where they will finally go 2-14 and nab some good draft picks and begin the long, slow process of beginning to rebuild a team.

you guys have like 16 contracts expiring next year and another 16 next year. you would be lucky to hold onto visanthe in 2012 because by then there will be nobody left but players that nobody wants.

if the vikings were smart, they would just start racing for the bottom, and i dont mean just this season, i mean really start liquidating motherfuckers while their stock is still reasonable or at least before every other team realizes how vulnerable the vikes are and uses that in player and draft trades.

nothing the vikings have done in the last few years ever gave me reason to think of them as looking at the long term... which is why i gave my steps above for drawing out abject failure and really taking your time getting to the bottom just to start seeing how far you need to go to get back to the top.

I get the vikings disposition though. the saints did the exact same thing in 1998. if you remember correctly, around that time they fired jim mora and got ditka who gave away pretty much every draft pick to grab ricky williams. then realizing what a shitfest they created, they got haslett who shed a glimmer of hope with a half washed up half rookie crew and actually went to the playoffs, only to turn around and spend the next 3-4 years sucking complete ass and making their way to the bottom.
and those will be the hardest years. while GB fans are laughing their stale beer and cheese breath in your face, your fellow viking fans will start to waiver in their loyalty and either just stop watching football or start acting like the patriots have always been their favorite afc team.

Berrian has one MORE year of usefulness?  He only HAD one year that was useful and it was 3 years ago.  No chance he will be a viking next year.  AP is and has been the best back in the league, he is in his prime, and somehow he only has 1 useful year left?

Its not like the vikings will win their division next year (they have some large holes to fill) but they have accumulated all the talent they have for a reason.  That's because they have one of the top front offices in the league as far as scouting, drafting and personnel decisions go.  We will see who becomes head coach next year but I think you are way off.

I dont think they have phenomenal scouting, but there are so many damn variables with a player nowadays that it really is an opinion as to which teams are really good at it, and which arent.

but that being said, what good is a great scouting team when you give away 2 picks to use randy moss for a few hours?

and AP was in his prime 2 years ago. RBs really only have 5 good years in them. Ap will probably still be a great fantasy pick next year with a rookie qb and the only core team left is the O line, i can see AP getting ass loads of carries.

but with more carries comes higher chance of injury. yeah, he has 1 year, maybe 2 without injuries + contract year then.

well the Bears are used to playing outside so they had the advantage last night. if you wonder how bad the weather was had warm days just before the snow, so the field was covered in ice, then snow. driving home from works take me 10 minutes. last night it took me two hours. the fact that they scored was impressive to me.

yea, totally agree.  The Moss move was beyond stupid.  I do feel New England and Philly are consistently the best at picking and dropping players tho.  The vikes are up there but not at that level.  They have had some terrible head coaching and quarterbacking for the last decade yet have managed to put together some good teams minus the two most important positions in the game.

AP won't last forever but having watched him every year I feel this was his best year yet.  Choosing his lanes, catching, blocking and holding onto the football.  AP had vast improvement in all those areas this year.  On top of all that he played with the worst oline of his career.  I believe he is up for a new contract at the end of next year, but he will likely get his huge $$ extension or a trade this offseason.  Being the face of the franchise I doubt he leaves.  With his skill peaking, I would take him as my RB over the next 2 years over any other

I think the vikes have alot of upside going into the future.  Alot depends on the new head coach and what FA they sign but the well is far from empty.

it was a sad performance, and cost my brother the championship game too. I have seen worse though. Ive seen Oakland perform worse several times in a season.

There was a monday night game back in the day where seattle put up over 40 (ff) points against some poor team, as they were helpless and frozen on the field during a bizzard, to get my friend who was down by 40 into the playoffs.

Its always fun to watch a QB with Zero snaps experience in a regular season NFL game get the call to under center.  Pretty much what I expected to happen, especially in that weather.

I think you got to put the Steelers and Giants at the head of that class as well.  Maybe even the Chargers.

Vikings front office doesn't impress me at all really.  Last year was really the only well-assembled team I can remember from Minnesota since '98.

I actually agree with most of what you said. I don't see the Vikings winning the division for at least a few years now. Although, I think you may be exaggerating just a tad. Yes, the Randy Moss deal was a major facepalm. Brad Childress made the decision to let him go without saying a word to the Vikings owner. That didn't work out too well for ole' Chilly.

I think Peterson has more than 1 good year left, assuming he doesn't suffer any major injuries. Also, his carrying load needs to be lightened by Toby Gerhart, which I think will happen. AP doesn't need to be carrying the ball 300+ times per season. We've got Percy Harvin and will likely re-sign Sidney Rice...two excellent receivers. Also, I don't believe Bernard Berrian ever had any talent besides dropping balls, we should trade him for a good water boy. I couldn't care less if Shiancoe leaves. He's an alright TE, but he now leads the league in penalties and in my opinion is easily replaceable.

Really, the only big ?'s are who's going to be our quarterback, and who will be our coach. There has been talk of the Vikings bringing in Bill Parcells, Bill Cowher, or Jon Gruden. I think we should just keep Leslie Frazier. The players seem to respect him, and with the money we would have spent on some high priced super bowl ring wearing coach, I think we could find a quarterback that can sling the ball to Rice and Harvin when we're not handing the ball  off to AP and Gerhart. Sure, the Vikings always seem to pick up some joke of a veteran quarterback that squeaks out one more year of decent numbers (Warren Moon, Randal Cunningham, Brad Johnson, Brett Favre), but that's kind of our thing. lol. Maybe we can get Troy Aikman or John Elway to come out of retirement.

Every Vikings fan is thinking the same thing right now...What the hell happened? What happened to the team that was one '12 men on the field penalty' away from the Super Bowl last year? I don't know. The Vikings disappoint. That's what they do. Apparently, so do the Cowboys. hehe. We may very well go into a 10 year rebuilding phase after this year, that remains to be seen. My hopes are not very high for the Vikings next year. However, I am very confident that our new governor will get a stadium deal done, so the Vikings don't leave Minnesota. Every time we get a new owner that doesn't live in MN, they say the team will be moved. I don't see this happening. I already know that the Vikings aren't going to win a Super Bowl until the season after I die. I've come to terms with this.

I would quit watching football. I don't like the AFC, and fuck the Packers.

The fuckin dickheads we have here in Green Bay who for whatever reason would rather root for the Vikings are more passionate.
