How should a beginner choose his snowboard too?
I know there's different thicknesses and the edge of the board is a little different on some, right?

I'm saving up because it doesn't look like Santa's bringing one.

Get something from the season before, usually these will be a lot cheaper than the latest models. Go for a reputable company but don't dump too much cash for brand name. I like Burton, Never Summer, Ride, K2, etc... Get a board that you're comfortable on. Like riding powder and making long, slow carves? Get a longer, heavier board (doesn't make sense for powder but trust me). Like short fast turns on a fast board? You guessed it, grab a shorter board.

Almost more important then a good board are some good bindings. Get strap-on bindings, not step-ins. Get something that is not shitty plastic, something that won't freeze up or snap when you're adjusting it on the mountain.

I like rome snowboards, they're not too expensive and the boards are nice. Some people go by weight for finding length of a board, but i just like it somewhere around chin height. Short flexible boards are good for park riding, rails/jumps longer harder boards are good for, speed/powder
Usually websites will tell you what the board is designed to do. Since your a beginner you should get something between those so you'll have a board for trying new things

I ride a Burton now. It's a really nice board, and I got it at Sniagrab so it was dirt cheap. If you buy your gear in May-July you can usually find really good deals.

Ya definitely the best time to buy is during the summer months.

:werd:

Never summer has some very nice boards :yesnod:, I've rode a few of em'...And they actually have a warranty they stand behind better than any other company out there, at least they used to, they still should though.

Burton does make decent boards, decent at best. But they're incredibly over rated and very over priced...And for what it's worth, I ride a Burton  .

My recommendations: Never Summer, Rome, Arbor, Nitro, and Libtech.

As others have suggested, try to hit up the end of season sales. Most places will have sales at the end of the season (April-June) and again before the new season starts (September-November). I got my entire set up Board, Bindings, and boots for $250. The clearance sale I hit up are always 40%-60% off

Some advice, don't strait up get an entry level board/bindings. Get something a bit more aggressive that you will work your way into.

Good luck, and welcome to the most awesome & addicting thing ever. Snowboarding is my life from October to May :awesome:

For real, snowboarding gives me something no drug or lady ever could :yesnod:...

But fuckin' shit, $1600 for a season pass!?....That's absolutely ridiculous. The going rate for a season pass around here is $300-$500 depending on the mountain...

I got a new 2010 Lib Tech Skate Banana last year. I LOVE it!

It has the new reverse camber design with magne traction edges for the smoothest ride ever. I don't think I have ever caught an edge on this board once! You can land 180's and 360's at a 90 or 270 and still slide out of them easily without catching an edge. And its super easy to do tail and nose presses too.

I would recommend boards with the new reverse camber design for all snowboarders. Beginners, intermediate, or advanced.
