I prefer snowboarding since I don't even really know how to ski, but I think people who say skis are limited just think of skis as "go down hill" type things. There's no reason you can't do fun shit on skis like you can on a snowboard, just like there's no reason snowboarders can't hit backcountry terrain.
Obviously they have their differences. I've always felt that it was easier to learn to ski than board, but more challenging to go beyond just getting down the hill.

Of course you can do other things, it's just less fun on skis. Buttering on skis is a joke compared to on a board.

Fuck skiing.
Snowboarding is cool cause you can boardslides and lipslides and switch frontside 360s and 270 lipslide and shit. With skis all you achieve is to look like a gay pussy homo faggot.

Riding switch on a board is a joke compared to skis. And buttering on a board isn't exactly my idea of fun or challenging in the first place. It's like, the most basic thing once you know how to get down the hill.
Obviously it's personal preference, I just never understood why so many people think doing tricks on boards is fun and on skis it's lame. I honestly think a lot of it has to do with the "coolness" aspect that used to exist. I know that's why I started boarding as a kid instead of skiing. There's just some weird notion that boards are for tricks and skis are just for going downhill when that's just not true. It's like beginner level mentality. Plus if you're at the level where just going down a hill is easy or lame then you're really missing out. Personally I've never been much of a terrain park guy at all anyway.
Edit: I worded that last bit like I'm some kind of expert or something when I'm far from it. It just seems that a lot of people who go casually and not that often think "Okay cool, skis can go down the hill, but that's boring, I want to do tricks" or something along those lines. Going down the hill isn't boring unless you're on a boring hill, and skis can hit the park.

I prefer snowboarding cause I skate and it comes natural to me. Skis on the other hand just feel too gay.

IMO riding switch on a board is much more difficult than riding backwards on skis.
I ride pretty much exclusively in the park, but again, unless you're at a hill with a sick park or amazing and difficult runs you have to make your own fun, and IMO there's not much to be had on skis.

I dunno, I just don't see how one is so much more fun than the either. I never understood it and I never will.
I found riding switch on a board fairly easy, though now that I think of it for the very brief time I tried skateboarding I rode regular but on a snowboard I ride goofy, so perhaps that had something to do with it.
On another note, when it comes to people who are going for the first time I typically recommend skiing; especially if they won't be going many more times in their life. It's just way fucking easier to learn. I know there are plenty of people that pick up boarding pretty quick, but in general it seems to take people longer and be a far more frustrating experience. A nice payoff once you learn, but if you're not going to be investing that time it just seems like a potential waste.

I've grown up skiing since I was 3 years old. I tried to snowboard at age seven but i never really liked it as much as skiing. The whole put on your binding at the top of the mountain thing really got on my nerves. I enjoyed the fact that skiing was so efficient, you have poles incase you get stuck and your skis will fall off if you get in a bad crash so you dont tear your knee. I respect skiers and snowboarder equally. Its their choice what they enjoy more not mine! OP i tottaly disagree on the point you made about how snowboarders have more freedom in the park. skiers have the same if not more freedom in the park. Name one thing you can do on a snowboard that you cant do on skis. You have 2 separate feet on skis which allows you to do much more than a snowboarder can. You can do many more grabs and on rails you can use your front ski edge to do pretzels and other variations. Heres a video of me skiing.

I ski'd once and snowboarded for a good 7 years straight. To be honest at this point cross country skiing sounds the most appealing to me right now.

It's got to be a personal thing then. I've been skiing all my life and can't ride backwards. Can't on roller blades or anything either. I started off riding switch on a snowboard. Plus riding backwards on skiis is a pretty limited view of what skiis can do. For the average person a snowboard is more versatile, but a true badass can shred the terrain parks on skiis better than most snowboarders can

You didn't start off riding switch, you started off goofy. So switch for you would be regular. It's not like skiing where there is a default forward. What your switch is depends on what you ride normally.

I know what goofy is... I've been wakeboarding since 5th grade. Yes I started off riding switch. When we would do our runs i would make sure to alternate stances each time. Admittedly after a few days i started focusing only on goofy for the sake of progressing faster, but i didn't find it necessarily hard to ride regular as long as i did some practice runs

Okay I see what you're saying. When you say you "started off" riding switch it just sounds like you, well, STARTED OFF doing it, which obviously doesn't make sense.

According to this logic I've done switch flip to nosegrind and switch hardflip to bs5050.
