I'll be at both MSG shows. Can't wait, they'll be my 10th and 11th Furthur shows. I think my favorite shows I've seen them do are 7/5/10 Stroudsburg, 6/26/10 Brooklyn, 2/14/10 Ithaca, and 12/13/09 Asbury Park.

I just did 6 shows on Dark Star Orchestra's fall east coast tour. That was a blast! I'll be doing their 4-night NYE run. Montlcair, NJ> Jim Thorpe, PA> Bridgeport, CT X2. Honestly... DSO > Furthur. Sorry Phil and Bobby.

There is no lot. Just lots of deadheads crawling around the city.

When i saw Furthur at Hammerstein, Radio City, and Best Buy Theatre in NYC... just hippie mayhem in the streets.

Man Damn, WE had 2 feet of snow here in VA, I was saving gas money for the winter tour (radio city shows) but had to call it all off, Bummer

At least the boys sound pretty serius about this band (in the interviews I have read the say it is for the forseeable future) I am really liking this new incarnation

I think it's the best phil and bobby have been playing since 1992 or so. After Brent died, they certainly lost some of that magic, especially with Jerry slipping as much as he did. But they debuted some new songs in 1992 which gave them some new energy and Bruce Hornsby i felt always added a new dimension. 92 and on is pretty hard to listen to in my opinion. 90% of the shows weren't that good. You just had to wait for that one moment of brilliance. Phil, Bobby, and Jerry had a hard time connecting and getting it together.

I never liked Phil and Friends. I've heard a few all right recordings but nothing that made me want to run out and see them. Ratdog was a little better. I usually enjoyed their shows. I like Mark Karan, Kenny Brooks, Jay Lane, and Jeff Chimenti.

Furthur is definitely making some great music... could be a wee bit more spacey but I've definitely enjoyed every show I've been to. JK is phenomenal, Jeff Chimenti is an extremely talented keyboard player. Joe Russo is a beast on the skins. Phil and Bobby definitely seem rejuvenated by this group of players. I just wish they'd let JK sing more of the Jerry tunes then Bobby or Phil e.g. Standing on the Moon, Franklin's Tower, Eyes of the World, Days Between.

On the whole though, i still think Dark Star Orchestra is making much more creative music. I prefer Jeff Mattson to John Kadlecik. Although I think Chimenti is technically a better pianist, Rob Barraco has sooooo much soul. He does Brent, Keith, and Pigpen sooo good. Great voice, very versatile. Rob Eaton does better Weir rhythms than Bobby does. Dino and Rob K KILL it on the drums. Lisa Mackey sounds like goddess when she sings. They let the music really take a hold of them and go wherever the music goes. It's on a whole nother level. Their whole performance is just better and more thrilling, entertaining, and inspiring to me.

But I do like Furthur and we'll continue to see them and am very excited for MSG.

Losing Brent must have been heart wrenching, I wish phil would have addressed it in his book to a furthur extent, I also agree about the shows once jerry really started to slip, I watched a video of them doing ramble on rose from 94, it was one of the saddest things I ever saw, And if I needed another reason not to do heroin... that was it

I did like ratdog quite allot, as well as P+F, The dead was pretty good (did the spring 09 tour out to Cali) but I thought they didn't play with each other enough anymore to really Gel, I LOVE chimenti, He can fucking PLAY, would not want anyone but him in FURTHUR, that said RB is a beast also.

I am really digging the new Hunter tunes, Muly Guly (Pride of cucamonga-ish,) And I saw them do Colors of the Rain at AllGood, Which I REALLY like, Its so jazz-like, Grate to hear them playing like that (I am a jazz fan also, Dad played jazz Sax) And those mountain songs are developing nicely, I like JK but I am glad he cut back that Hopping around, Goofy kid in a candy store shit that he was doing (I like the jerry head on chest-concentrating on playing, approach) But I am part of the crowd that does not like his vocals too much, I can appreciate the way bobby and phil sing, Its is kind of a "Fuck you" to perfectly on key Auto-tune mainstream pop garbage sing that has become so prevalent. But that is just me, and I understand where you are coming from

I won't say furthur>dso or vice verse, I really enjoy Grateful Dead music, And I am glad (whats left of) the boys, are keeping it going.

And I shall be going Furthur!  :gd_icon:  :gd_icon:   :peace:

I agree, but you shouldn't knock the wraps, just because some douche wants to look cooler than the next. Wire wraps are a great form of art imo.

I still agree about the punks fucking the scene up, though. It's always been the same story. The older heads will always complain that it's the younger ones making all of the problems, when in fact, they themselves once ran in those same shoes. I agree that kids these days seem to be a lot more disrespectful, though.

Ahh! the foolish things i have said in heated moments.

Well I am youngblood myself, But most of my time on the scene has been spent with the older heads who have more of a head on their shoulders, I am somewhere inbetween the ultra negitive, newly dis-illusioned lot punks, and the new hippy dippy 'I wish it was the '60's' type.
