As long as the atmosphere exists, I shouldn't have said forever, that was gay.

Chemical changes, like changing into different molecules when both subjected to heat and surrounded by other atoms (like the many atoms in the atmosphere).

I don't think as of now its a huge problem though..
In the future with better space technology disposing or at least doing something about useless orbital junk won't be as difficult as it is now - and probably more necessary.

They can ionize, or bond to something (like each-other or the outer atmosphere).

true that things like HG are toxic but if you are going to claim that the pollutants are not rendered

harmless by re-entering the atmosphere and burning up you kinda need to provide a link that shows X

bonding to Y causes shit to hit the fan or alternatively X is left unchanged (like you claimed) and

stratifies back down to the surface causing shit to hit the fan.  you also have to keep in mind the

concentrations of the pollutants and what lvl they become toxic ie how much material is actually up

there compared to the volume and density of the upper atmosphere. AND you have to keep in mind the

rate at which any potential pollutants enter the atmosphere and how long it takes them to be removed

from it.

And just because a object is in a stable orbit around earth and outside of the atmosphere doesn't

mean that it will stay there forever (or even tens of millions of years)

THERE STILL IS GAS UP THERE albeit at extremely tiny concentrations that does impact and slow down

any satellite till eventually it WIll come back down. (space is NOT a perfect vacuum but its pretty close)

Well, bottom line is that the satellites in that image are not to scale. Obviously this picture was created for effect. Not sure why anyone would think it actually looked like that.

Here are a couple vids that are interesting and somewhat relevant to the topic.

Terrence McKenna isn't it?

Maybe not but I've seen it atleast attributed to him...

I've said it myself to my friends tripping and it never fails to blow minds :wink:

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.

You fools do realize that they aren't necessary talking about HUMAN pollution but maybe just space pollution.  There is "space garbage" you know, rocks and shit i mean it is space don't blame it all on us and be one of those guys.  The planet does have gravity and orbits are strong so of course its going to suck up random shit floating by.

EDIT:

"The following graphics are computer generated images of objects in Earth orbit that are currently being tracked. Approximately 95% of the objects in this illustration are orbital debris, i.e., not functional satellites. The dots represent the current location of each item. The orbital debris dots are scaled according to the image size of the graphic to optimize their visibility and are not scaled to Earth. These images provide a good visualization of where the greatest orbital debris populations exist. Below are the graphics generated from different observation points."
