it is claimed in the above that the etymological root of the word "cannabis" is the ancient hebrew "kaneh-bosh"
it is established that the religious practices of ancient hebrews included anointing people with oils
it is recorded in the bible that these oils, in at least some instances, included quite a significant quantity of "kaneh-bosh"
therefore, it is claimed in the above that what we actually have in this situation is a pseudo-shamanic practice of topically applying psychoactive drugs (cannabis) in order to induce "religious" states of mind
furthermore, it is claimed that the word "messiah" (long used in the hebrew tradition) translates literally to "the anointed one," meaning one anointed with sacred oils
if true, this leaves little doubt that those who used these oils were viewed as "special people," perhaps akin to the view in aboriginal cultures of those who use their respective local psychoactive herbs etc

i for one have never encountered this line of argument before, and find it quite intriguing

can anyone refute (or confirm) the claim that "kaneh-bosh" is in fact cannabis?
does anyone have further relevant information about the hebrew practice of anointment, including its meaning and significance in their culture?

Both "Christ" from the Greek  and "Messiah" from the Hebrew are translated as "the annointed"  from the tradition of annointing kings with oil when they ascended the throne - Many traditions (Chatholic etc) still do this during baptism (oil on the forehead).

The bigger question for me is whether one can get high by absorbing cannabis oil  - or oil that has had cannabis steeped in it  - thru the skin?

I once received a "cannabis massage" using massage oil that included cannabis.  It didn't quite get me high in the way that smoking it might have, but it has the effect of relaxing muscles and giving one a bit of a body buzz.

this is true, but i know for a fact that at some dispensaries you can get "cannabis salve," which is a rub-on substance that does get you high

it's probably entirely dependent on the mixture of oils being used
