The term duality
    #13113208 -

"The yin and yang symbolizes the duality in nature and all things in the Taoist religion."

I think the problem with this word, is that it represents the western perspective of the tao.

Which is conflict.

I think this word misrepresents the true nature of the symbol, which as it should of course, since the original word 'tao' doesn't even capture it's own essence.

The western perspective is conflict.
The eastern perspective is complement.

The eastern perspective sees it not as a conflict that will have a winner or a loser, but how the winner and loser complement each other and are inseparable.

One is United, and One is Divided.

It's pretty interesting how yin and yang these 2 perspectives are on the very nature of yin and yang itself.

anyway, just felt like doin' yin and yang thangs,

not sure, idk much history,

regardless, all civil wars shed blood, but what is interesting is

within the conflict of war (yin), and the settlement of uniting (yang) is the revolution (tao)

what time is it right tao?

All this time I've loved you
And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs

The Eastern-Western division is another construct of duality. :crazy2:

Black and white are the same thing; the contrast in the symbol is to indicate movement.

imo.

Regardless of the interpretation of duality of nature, why is no questioning whether nature has duality to begin with?

I think duality is actually less concerned with opposites

and more related to inherent contradictions in everything

"it is, but it isn't"

or for example,  lsd is spiritless, and yet it is the spirit of that which has no spirit

everything and nothing... are opposites, but they aren't

Quote:
He asserted that events difficult to explain, such as that operation, were really very simple.
They were made difficult by our insistence upon thinking. If we did not think, everything fit into
place.
"That is truly absurd, don Juan," I said and really meant it.
I reminded him that he demanded serious thinking of all his apprentices, and even criticized
his own teacher for not being a good thinker.
"Of course I insist that everyone around me think clearly," he said. "And I explain, to anyone
who wants to listen, that the only way to think clearly is to not think at all. I was convinced you
understood this sorcerers' contradiction."

"it is, but it isn't"

is the essence of duality, imo. It can't be explained...
"but it can", I suppose might be the follow up to that

Quote:
Since they could not explain it, for there is no rational way to understand existence, seers realized that their knowledge
is composed of contradictory propositions.
"Why did they develop a system of contradictions?" I asked.
"They didn't develop anything," he said. "They found unquestionable truths by means of their
seeing. Those truths are arranged in terms of supposedly blatant contradictions, that's all.
"For example, seers have to be methodical, rational beings, paragons of sobriety, and at the
same time they must shy away from all of those qualities in order to be completely free and open
to the wonders and mysteries of existence."
His example left me baffled, but not to the extreme. I understood what he meant. He himself
had sponsored my rationality only to crush it and demand a total absence of it. I told him how I
understood his point.
"Only a feeling of supreme sobriety can bridge the contradictions," he said.
"Could you say, don Juan, that art is that bridge?"
"You may call the bridge between contradictions anything you want - art, affection, sobriety,
love, or even kindness."

Quote:
He emphasized that intent is not something one might use or
command or move in any way - nevertheless, one could use it, command it, or move it as one
desires. This contradiction, he said, is the essence of sorcery.

"it's very difficult and yet it's the simplest thing in the world."

I could have kept this post a lot more concise and simple...  "it is, but it isn't", really says it all for me

Cop out bull shit man.

You've just accepted something "just because". Where is your reasoning for this? LSD has no spirit. It's just parts composed of parts working together to form bigger parts to form bigger parts to form bigger parts.

Everything is not nothing, and nothing is not everything. You are inherently contradicting yourself just to sound thought provoking to people who don't think actually about things, but rather just look to others for answers. You don't know what it actually means because what you said doesn't mean anything. It's just your obscure ponderings you've come to accept to provide comfort for yourself so you can feel secure.

LOL

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzoooooooooooooooooooooooooom

is the sound of something going way over your head

its ok if you disagree with me, but your disagreement should at least have something to do what what I've said

anyways,

duality to me is sorta like being god, and yet your actions are reflected back by the world in ways you could not predict but only learn from

ill take this as an example

this is more western thought based

everything and nothing are dualistic, opposites.

yet with eastern thought, instead of duality (conflict), its compliment(unification).

nothing and everything compliment each other, they are both necessary for each others existence, and according to eastern philosophy, everything is nothing and nothing is everything.

What gets me is that people who see the tao in terms of a western mind, really aren't seeing it the way it was intended, it really is more 'non-dualistic' than dualistic.

''The concept of Yin and Yang, often mistakenly conceived of as a symbol of dualism, is actually meant to convey the notion that all apparent opposites are complementary parts of a non-dual whole. The Tao Te Ching has been seen as a nondualist text; from that perspective, the term "Tao" could be interpreted as a name for the Ultimate Reality (which, as the Tao Te Ching itself notes, is not the reality itself).''
