is it a humidity or hygrometer problem?
    #13074330 -

Here we go. I've made my own fruit chamber and I wanted to test it  if it holds humidity inside...

(the wood inside is waterproof)

So I i put a small plastic box of hot water inside AND one of those Oregon Scientific clocks with a temperature and humidity meter.

The result was high condense (obviously) and 94-98 % humidity according to the clock (in 15 min). Neat. The FC has only few holes ( gonna make them soon). Anyways the humidity % stayed the same for 24 hours.

I took the water out, cleaned the FC, so it had normal room humidity... and put in perlite and water (the the non 'smooth' one - sorry my English)...

What happened. In six hours the perlite went to 84 % humidity and stayed there.

where's the problem?

The clock? (and why), the perlite itself or the the mix of water & perlite?

p.s. and why hot water isn't used as a humidifier?

ok Maybe i don't understand but I'll take a shot at it.  can you take pics of your FC? and if you don't link your URL People probably wont look. thats too much effort. haha sorry but i mean it just sounds liek you need to mist your fc.

Did you put the same perlite back into the FC?  If so then it definitely would have had a chance to dry out a little further.  Could also be the level of the perlite and how long it had to suck up the water if you regenerated it.  Also, if the hygro/thermo has a reset, I'd take this opportunity to press that button.

Well I haven't tried anything with the perlite other then putting it in for mentioned hours and out again after it stalled at 84 percent (according to the clock.)

You can re-use Perlite as much as you want.

As for your humidity problem, with very little holes you will not have proper air flow.
Try building a shotgun terrarium, this allows proper humidity and air flow.

PS - if your digital hygrometer was in there for like 6 hours straight there is a chance it is buggy.
Take it out into fresh air for 30 minutes to an hour and let it go down.

Well, as it seems the SG-FC has alot of holes.... i was planning to do that.... would that higher the humidity?

..

The clock wasnt inside the whole night, just in the morning for half an hour...
in the first test with hot water(12 hours) it was inside all the time but i showed 98 percent the next day).

In the second hot water test it was inside for 10 min ( till it show 94 % humidity) then cleaned the fc and but in the FC, as i said in the first post.

Make sure you have some holes in the bottom so that air can blow in from below and release the humidity(make sure they are 1/4' so the perlite doesn't fall through), how wet would you say your perlite is? I recently had a problem with too much water in it causing low humidity.

Well I haven't even began  using the fruit box yet (the cakes are somewhere at 90% of colonizing). Im just making tests to figure out how long does the computer fan behind the box need to to lower the humidity  to some percantage, so i will stop it, before it makes to much dry air.
(im going to fan by opening the front lid and turn on the fan for about 20-30 sec few times a day) and then fan. the rest will be up to the holes.

But before i began the fruiting, id like to know, why perlite doesn't make atleast 90%... but needs atleast 4 hours to a 84% humidity.

It takes quite some time for humidity to adjust.
Make sure you're misting first, then fan.  Fanning after misting will make sure you don't leave excess moisture on the tops of the cakes.

wow you definatly can do some bulk in that thing haha. umm resoak your perlite. get rid of that electronic hygrometer. IMO they are whack. waste of money. Get one from a pet store or smoke shop wrap it in a wet wash cloth for 2 hours to calibrate it. then put it in your FC. You could be getting wrong readings. Also mist 3 times a day and try to fan 3-5 times. remember light is 12/12

OH YEAH!!!!.... use more perlite in the whole FC and make it so the top not the side comes off. because that perlite has to do alot of work to make that whole FC 95% RH

Yes I was planning doing some bulk next round.

Okey, Ill try adding more perlite (i have a 100 liter bag):D

Well it's kinda too late (atleast for now) to change the box structure ( moving the opening lid at the top.) It would be hard to take out the inside. because i'm planning to have three levels of cakes... and it would be easier to take them out frontaly.
I think

The way you have it is a little flawed.
While a box is nice for easy locale for your boxes of growing, the wooden boxes may greatly reduce air flow.

I'd leave the big box's sides open so the tubs are visible.

OH OH OH MAKE IT A WOODEN SHOTGUN FC.  oh since you really wanna make a set up why don't you go all the way and get an air pump with a hepa filter. and a humidifier and make it professional. your yield will be huge. I did some research on someone who did that and his first gro wusing it he got out of the first flush was 1600 grams wet

Three things.  First, digital hygrometers are crap above about 80%, so you can't count on it.

Second, humidity is only one of the factors, and it's not even the most important one.

Third, fresh air is the number one pinning trigger, followed by bright light.  You're not going to get the fresh air exchange you need in that box.  I'd suggest building a simple shotgun mushroom terrarium and being done with it.  You don't need the wood box.

Oh the things I would do with a room like that!! So many idea's are rattling around my head just thinking about the possibilities.

Trust RR he always has the best advice and he DID make the video about it after all...

I have used the SGFC for some time now and I like it a lot. It's simple
to make, it's reliable to use, and it's cheap.
