understanding pruning

i tried to ask the growery. but again they are no help;
god i hate that site i wish it was 10 years older
anyway
when is enough enough?
do to security reasons my outdoor monsters had to go inside
they were LST and all ready had a pretty even canopy.
There were dozens of branches down "to low" that i have taken off allready
At least 50 cuttings from each plant to help the rest of the colas..
+1 month more of veg time
both packed in a 6'x4' space

-would continuing taking of inferior branches(smaller diameter or in the shade greatly effect the quality of the remaining buds?
i might have chopped off 1/3 of the plant already but its still much larger then in that old pic of them

also
not that i am going to but lets say yield was not an issue
all you want is the best bud possible
Would reducing the plant 50%  greatly help the remaining branches
i know more stems means more bud but smaller and"Pruning away the underbrush and smaller branches focuses the plant's energy on the remaining buds, which grow large and bulky with fewer leaves"

what is the point where enough is enough

Just chop off the lower smaller branches and let that bitch grow. No sense in butchering the poor gal.

yeha, its a good idea to cut and clone smaller growth that wont put out much in terms of finished bud, BUT, the leaves of the plant are still its main power source so cutting off to many is only going to cause unneeded stress. i would definatly not hack it up too much. Let her do her thing.

okay so it wouldn't be equal to say pumpkins or watermelons?

I know if you were to remove all the melons/ pumpkins except for a select few or just one the remaining one/s will be monsters the plant will simply pump all of that good stuff to them.

i have chopped so much already but i still have branches under the canopy or in the shade of the plant off to the side far from the light. basically i should have twice the lighting. but i dont. and i dont care about yield, just the potency/appearance.

A couple summers ago I grew a six foot plant with no sidebranches and ended up with a single cola weighing just shy of 2 ozers! (after cure) You can cut every single branch/leaf off except the top maybe 5 nodes! And get a beautiful nugger! Your obviously not gonna cut that mch off but seriously if you ain't gonna grow a cola on it cutting it off will benefit your yeild so much. You aren't gonna increase potency much if any caus that's in the plants genetics. But with bigger juicier buds it always atleast seems better :smile: to me any ways. But ya your gonna end up with the same smoke no matter what just prettier and lots more of it!! Hope she turns out nice

When you remove side branches it will divert energy towards the remaining buds.  In my opinion though, the quality of the buds aren't dependent on how much you can fit onto the colas you have but how healthy the plant is overall.  Yours looks healthy so I wouldn't be so worried about it really.  As long as it's getting good light and air circulation it's all good.

A good general rule is to remove no more than one third of the bottom branches, any more than that stresses the plant and it can cause the build up of hormones(Auxins) promoting vegetative growth or hermaphrodites. I would go easy on removing the branches so close to the plant budding as it will check the growth.

yeah i would never prune a plant within a month of harvesting. Also the least amount of foliage that you can remove is best. the leaves are your power sources.

well i consider fatter buds to be higher quality, i didnt specifically mean more potent buds.
I'm still worried because those two plants are now under a 400 HPS and 100 CFL

i have totally removed more then 1/3 all ready.
but at different stages of the pants life.hermaphrodites are a real problem because i have feminized seeds.

and Sui i never removed any single leaves i have only taken off whole branches.
