pruning

O.K. I know this is a bit of a noob question but I have read several posts on here of papaver leaves going yellow when the plant starts to bud, would it not be logical therefore to prune these leaves off all together and let the plant put all it's energy into producing the pod?
Has anyone tried this the only negative aspect to pruning I can think isis that the plant may go into shock. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
