camaro and drifting ??? Drifters wanted

if i was to get my hands on a  86 z28 camaro
and if i wanted to make it drift

what all would i have to do
i know i would have to extend the steering ratio
and get a few weight reductions
but does anyone know anything else i should do??

choosing a camaro as a drift car is a bad idea.
its heavy and unbalanced. a significant amount of suspension work would be required as well as significant engine mod's. even being a z28 its really underpowered for drifting from the factory.  You want better throttle response, as well as higher revs than you'll get out of a 305/350.  In fact, I'd opt for a v6 camaro IF I was forced to build a camaro as a drifter.

If I were you, I'd sell the z28 and buy a s13 240sx or a fc3s rx7 or something along those lines. 

also, keep that shit off the streets. I'm not saying I'm not guilty of doing stuff on the streets, but take it from somebody who's been in trouble for street racing, as well as seen friends lose their life while racing, its safer and LEGAL at the track.

EDIT: american muscle cars are GREAT for drag, and Jap Rice Rockets are GREAT for drift/handling.  Sorry bud, but thats a losing battle trying to argue that. Not saying you can't drift a camaro, just saying the amount of money you'll need to invest to make the car controllable in a drift is going to be astronomical compared to that of a rice rocket.  Buy a 240sx for maybe $2-$3k, and you've literally got a drift car right out the box.  another $1000 in some engine/suspension mods, and a junkyard LSD (unless you're lucky enough to have a HICAS car), and you'll have a good drift car.  you need ANY questions answered about a 240sx, I'm your guy. I've spent more time under the hood of 240's than I care to think about. LOL

i wanted a 86 z28 iroc , just because its from the same year im born
and it has the best stear box ,

what about a silvia s13 or s15

my dad split when i was a baby so i couldent really get any side of that life done
ive only done alittle work on that 86 camaro . and my gokart lol

im was robbed of my childhood

S13 is known for some understeer,I own one..still sorta stock though.I would go for a S14...and an S15..forget about it,good luck acquiring one.

Check out keiichi tsuchiya's Drift bible from best motoring,he's the drift king.It's really great if you want to get serious.

but im guessing that its not old enough for me to ship here
since cars have to be 5,8,14??? something years old to get it
if i remember right

and no i have the go kart now
witch can totaly drift:D
i spun out and broke my disk brake disk (wtf) its like 1/8 inch steal

then whats a cool car to drift
im not really worried about money
because i know this project is cheap if i go with a car ment for this

well if you're stateside you're not finding a REAL silvia s15 unless somebody has imported it.  a silvia refers to a japanese car powered by a 2.0Turbo (sr20det).  They were sold stateside, relabeled as the 240sx and powered by 2.4L naturally aspirated engine (ka24e/ka24de).

s13 refers to the chasis, not the engine. a s13 is a 240sx/180sx/silvia produced from 1989-1994 (94 was convertible only in the USA).
s14 is a silvia/240sx from 94-99
s15 was not sold stateside, only as a silvia in japan.

If I were you. I'd buy a 91-93 240sx (dohc, not sohc like the 89-90).  First mods would be an exhaust and intake, then throw in a LSD out of a HICAS model or do a z32 (late model 300zx) LSD swap.  Then do some suspension work. That'd be a GREAT drift car.

uhhh why would  that piss me off? lol that would be pretty cool.

Not saying its impossible,most likely you'll be paying alot and also theyre right hand drive.I would just get a S14 with a SR20DET.
