My buddy had a 13 foot albino burmese..that snake was fun...until one day (he lived in an apartment) she decided that behind the stove was the place to be. coaxing a snake that large out of a hole maybe 3 inchs wide is a long and grueling process. But the big ones are very cool, especially when they're friendly. And Del, sorry dear, but snakes are carnivores, and mice are the preffered form of rodent. Sounds like a ball python is the way to go...biggest i've ever seen was only 5 feet, and they're really nice.

i can't suggest one, because the snake i used to own was a red-tailed boa constrictor, which generally grow to 15 or 20 feet, which doesn't quite meet your requirements :wink:

record Boa constrictor constrictor length is 18 feet, they generally stay around 8-12 though.

for a good snake, go with a corn.

my little guy, rodan the serpentor. he is a south western black headed snake, grows to about 14" but stays slender.

have you consider getting a tortoise? they're vegetarians you know :wink: this is my leopard tortoise Aztec. He will grow to be 40 pounds and will probably live as long as I do (or maybe longer at the rate im going :spliff:)

I have a Bal Python named Lenny. He's about a year old, and was a good snake. Now that I've stopped habdeling him as much, he's taken to biting me every chance he gets. I wanna tame him again but sometimes he draws blood:\ Anyways, Bal Pythons are great if you have the time for them. I feed him frozen mice, and sometimes I'll even go get fresh(live) one to feed him. It's cool to watch him hunt the little thing. Anyways, hes only a few feet long, and won't get much longer.

I had three Boa Constrictors back in the Seventies. Fluffy and Spot at first, then Bubba. Fluffy and Spot were about seven feet each when I sold them (girlfriend issues) and Bubba was about eight and a half feet. He was heavy.

All three were as gentle as lambs, but they also got a lot of handling from a lot of people. None of them ever attempted to bite anyone.

I have no idea how big they'd be by now if I'd kept them. One of my friends had one called Fang who was just under eleven feet.

Snakes need special loving. I hope that before you buy any reptile, or any pet besides a cat or a dog, you know what you're doing. That said, a childrens python is a small, cute snake. They're a little bit feisty though until they learn to appreciate you. Lots of handling is required for any snake. Otherwise they'll be defensive and a huge pain in the ass to maintain.

There aren't many snakes that won't eat rats. Corn snakes do, so do boas and pythons (though some get big enough to eat goats). Rough Green snakes are cool. They are common around where I live, but make great pets. They get to about 4 feet long, but are very slender. They eat crickets and catepillars (silkworms!)

I'm saving money to get a diamondback rattler. Yay!

Hey del.  I have a Ball python for you.  Its 3 feet long.  Its a lil bigger then you like but hes very nice.  His name is Thumper.  He dosnt like rats eather. One tore him up a while ago.  You can have him as long as you like.  I will always take him back.  So if you want a snake as a loner.  You can have mine to see if snakes are right for you.  :wink:
