Fish tank heater problem
    #1293750 - 02/09/03 03:54 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Just wondering how people usually keep the condensation down with a fish tank heater, but still keep the temp up. If I cover the water tank than the temp doesn't reach 84, only about 78, but the condensation isn't too bad...but if I leave it open than there is MAD condensation all over the place, but the temp is perfect. Ideas?

I was having the same problem as you are. All I did was ditch the water tank idea. I filled the bottom of my terrarium with about two inches of perlite, and two inches of water. I then stuck the heater into this muck, and put my cakes in cake pans and set them on the water/perlite layer. Worked for me!

Oh shit, I'm sorry...I forgot to mention - this is my incubator, not terrarium

I had the same problem. I simply took a piece of saran wrap, put it over the top of the jar and slapped a rubber band around it. I poked a few holes in it to allow for ~ 70 % humidity to keep the jars from drying out. If you can't keep the heat up when you cover the top of your jar of water then it might be time to get a new heater. Mine was 100 watts and only cost about $17 from Petsmart.
