Fish Tank Heater
    #1201281 -

I'm going to purchase a fish tank heater to help keep my incubation temps up. I plan on putting about six jars into a rubbermade container in a closet. Any suggestions on fish tank heaters...? I've seen ones that are about seven inches long with thermostats on them. Are these ok or do they have to be submerged in water? In other words I need some good incubation setup ideas that have worked for the vets...

I understand the whole word...

I did plenty of searching, but I also want to hear a bit from the experienced growers on the forum. If you don't want to waste your time answering the question...then don't reply at all.

Putting a non submersible heater in a glass juice jug like the ones used for OJ and then putting it in the middle of the container surrounded by jars makes for a nice radiant heater but having a submersible one in the bottom of one container and having another contained sitting in the water so the water goes up the side makes for more even heating.

submersibles (FULLY, that is) are by far the best way to go. if you can find the type that have the thermostat on the cord towards the plug then YaY, otherwise don't sweat it. anything over 100W is overkill. since your in a closet you prolly won't have to worry about losing too much heat. if you do you will need to figure out a way to insulate it (wow, a post today was about just that, yeah, you searched allright). make sure your temps are stabilized before putting your jars in there. also try putting h202 or a lil bleach (doesn't decompose/evaporate) in the water just for good measure. don't trust the thermostat on the heater for the temp, make sure you have a floating style thermometer or the sticky kind (not as accurate) to measure your temps. hope that helps, too bad all of that information has been recited a billion times right here in this forum and bandwidth and server space was just wasted. as for building the incubator, come on dude, FAQ, search, TEK's abound on the topic, don't ask.
