Need Help, First grow, Fish Tank Heater!!!
    #4026668 - 04/07/05 04:18 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

So i decided that i would rather grow then hunt for now so naturally i ordered the spore syringe 12cc of eq spores, from spore source.. Then i got some rubber maids all the material ectr.. Well my spores are supposed to come today so currently i have all ten jars being sterlized in pressure cookers.. So today when i went out, i went to pet smart to get a fish tank heater, Well my dumb ass forgot to get fully submerged fish tank heater.. And got a heater that sets it self to 80 degrees.. So im at a disadvantage, so i decided alright since i can't fully submerge it, or my ass will get fried,so i filled the water in the rubber made with hot water to heat it up..And i connected the fish tank heater to the side of the rubber maid.. Dose anyone have any ideas how i could make do with this or not.. ANY HELP would be greatly apreciated.. This is my first grow ever, and ive already screwed up.. Thanks

Have you a photo of the heater? or a link to a similar one? If not describe it. Are you certain it is not submersible?
At least it is thermostatically controlled but it is not great if it is stuck only at 80. You could always bring it back and exchange it.

It'll take some tweaking also. Remember, some fish tank heaters can be set on 66 degrees and provide 80 degrees or even more. Make sure you check prior to incubating jars. Yours has a standard setting of 80. Just make sure it's not providing to much more heat than you think it is.

Its not stuck at 80 it will heat up to 80 six.. sorry i dont have a digital camera right now i will buy one soon, im going to make a grow log the heat is a 100 wat heater for 25 gallon tank i got it so it could heat up the rubber maid real quick the rubber maid is about 9 inches long filled 2/3rds of the way up.. The heat has a water level line drawn on it.. and on the inside of the box it says not to let anything touch the wires or the parts above the line one sec and ill load up the exsact one from pet smart..

damnit i cant find it.. But are there any ideas on how i can make this heat the water with out it being fully submereged.. I tried just putting it on the side of the rubber maid, but it seemed as if it wasnt heating any more, the heater was hot but it, thought it had reached the right tempature, and the water was no where near 80. So i emptyed that water filled it with warm water, and plugged the heater back on to give it i gusse a sort of boost.. but i just wanted to know if theres anyway to make it heat the water properly.? just set it to 86 by the way so maybe it will put a little more warmth out. ITS A FREAKING 100 WATT.. LOl

I agree, you will be glad you did, since just starting out it's best to do what RK said instead of headaches trying to get that to work. It can be done but more of a pain. Also try to get a submersible with a remote therm like this one.

If you choose to make of of these, make sure you dont skimp on the industrial strength epoxy...It may seem obvious but leaking water and electricity don't mix well

*edit* I am ALL FOR the fully subersible heaters...working with them is much more simple and safe. But im broke and its 1/2 hour to the nearest petstore  :smirk:
