50W FIsh Tank Heater Not Working!

It was recommend to me to buy a fish tank heater, placed inside a glass jar, inside my rubbermade container which serves as my inncubator for jars. Last night, the temp was 75, so I wrapped the rubbermade in a thick blanket to provide better insulation. Today I check and the temp is at 76. Has anyone experienced similiar problems? Is it time to cut my losses and buy a heating pad instead?

yeah heating pad!  :grin:

i usually put my boxes of jars on a couple bricks so they're not directly on the pad  cause those things get kinda hot.  walmart has some jumbo sized heating pads for like $16.

I purchased a submersible heater and made the incubator in this link. It worked like a charm. After adjusting the temp, I never had to mess around with it again.

I also use the same setup as Bruiser and it stays at 85 degrees all the time. Mind you, my room temp is between 66 - 69 degrees 24/7.

the heater was submersed in water in the jar right?? not just sitting in a dry glass jar..
did a light come on.
i used to use a heating pad but switched to the aquarium heater and have never looked back. i had a dimmer switch on the heater pad but it still varied due to the temp in the room changing. aquarium heaters have built in thermostats so the temp remains around the same

i used the fish tank heater. but i couldn't get it hot enough when it was turned up all the way. i pulled the adjustment knob up a bit and was able to turn it higher and now get >80 degrees. the instructions with the thermometer said to do this.

Yes, I do have water in the jar and it is turned to 88 degrees :] I just looked on the box and it says 'submersible', so I am going to try to get another rubbermade and do as the tek specifies. We'll see how it turns out, thx

Wow.. I just followed the tek and the temperature is already up to 82 degrees within the first 10 minutes... I guess its just a matter of adjusting the heater now--
