Fish tank heater warmness
    #1076498 -

i have my colonizing jars in alittle tupperware container inside another tupperware with water and a fish tank heater in the bottom one... my question is, is the water supposed to be like hot or anything to heat the jars cos the water is just like warm i have the fish tank heater set for 85 should it be set higher to produce heat? or does it sound ok as is?

Does it have a temp guage on it so you know it's 85? If not then you just need to have it in your incubator and then let it be for 24 hours until everything is evened out then measure the temp and adjust accordingly...

there could be to much water for it to heat but it sounds fine. Also is the water going up the edges of the container to help insulate it? Just put a thermomiter in there balance it on a jar so it just reads the air temp not the temp of the surface of the container then ull know.

It doesn't sound like you have a thermometer...you should definitely get a good one. Fish tank heaters can be very unreliable, you can never trust the temperature you set it to be the temperature of the water or the chamber. If the water is just warm, it may be too cold, but you wont know until you get an accurate temperature reading.

Go back to where ever you bought the heater and buy an aquarium thermometer for $2 or $3 bucks.
Don't guess.
