i was being facetious. i think the no camera policy is really dumb. photo and video permissions in addition to open recording help promote a healthy (and happy) fan base. two highly successful bands i can think of off the top of my head who allow this sort of thing are medeski, martin & wood and ween. nothing beats being at a live show and like you said, pictures and videos are really more for sentimental value than anything. live recording is a little different, but still i wish more bands did this. personally, as an artist i'd want to let the world know what my shows are about and offer my music to people who can't be there for whatever reason. from what i've seen that generosity reciprocates in spades. but at the same time it's their band and they can do whatever they want. obviously tool isn't hurting for more fans.

Excessive force applies to both parties in this case after non compliance with profanity and the fact that the OP was under the influence of LSD he was not in a legal state of mind to make such a judgment call nor could he argue that in a court of law.

In addition to that the OP refused to comply with concrete rules and did so by using profanity. Although the security guard should and may lose his job over such a situation stabbing him would only serve as attempted murder due to the altercation being initially provoked.

The first thing their going to do is a drug test. After which they will ask what instigated the confrontation. With the fact that the situation was started due to non compliance with venue rules the fact that you claim the person could stab a security guard in an authority position and plea self defense is honestly a testament to how ignorant you are of the legal system.

Self defense pleas are extremely complex and must be handled in a delicate manner. Once an illegal drug is found within the blood stream it makes it almost impossible to argue a self defense plea ESPECIALLY if the person being stabbed is in a security position on private property.

This guys going to be lucky to lose his job under such a situation and your arguing that he could legally stab a security guard on LSD at a stadium...

Go learn the acute details of Self Defense laws and how they apply to private property before spouting off clearly retarded off the hip guess worked bullshit.

You need to read the rest of the thread--he was assaulted after he complied with the orders to stop taking pictures. He was attacked by surprise from behind, any judge that wouldn't see this (him stabbing the security guard) as a genuine case of self-defense is a fucking retard.

If you can't see how overblown and ridiculous the actions of the security guard were, then I don't know what to tell you...

It was a fucking cell phone picture. Half the people there were most likely doing the same damn thing. And if some meathead security guard really finds it to be that big of a deal, then there are 5,000 other ways to handle this situation that didn't require being a enormous douchebag.

Plain and simple, that was assault. If at all possible, I would 100% try to get that worthless tool fired.

@adrug: what's wrong with tripping at the sprint center during a concert...? I'm really not following.

honestly, at the risk of being flamed i'd consider posting a thread on the band's forum about it explaining exactly what happened. you'll get flack for not following the rules but i seriously doubt any member of tool would want their fans handled in this way at one of their shows. you might stand a very slim chance of it getting around to one of the members and them rectifying it in some way. i know that if i were in a band i'd wanna know about this sort of stuff.

Well it's not as if it was some mystery that they didn't want photos taken, I imagine it was announced and likely posted. Other people ignoring the rules doesn't make it right to ignore the rules. The rules being silly doesn't make it right to ignore the rules.

The OP is an  for taking the picture. He was politely asked to delete it by security and ignored it. At that point they had the right to throw him out. He claims they went about it in an unacceptably aggressive manner. It's possible they asked him to come with them and perceived his walking away as an attempt at escape. We just don't know.

wtf are you reading dude? you obviously didnt read a fuckin thing i wrote.

it was not announced about the cameras. i walked in the venue and went to my seat.

i took a picture, a guard came and told me in a dickish manner to put it away. he did NOT "politely" ask me to "delete" the picture. he came over and was a total dick to me, so i was a dick back and did the air jerk and nut bust toward him when he was walking away. i put my phone IN my pocket, THEN i get grabbed by the neck by a different security guard. hard. he was taking all his fuckin anger out on me. all i did was take a picture then COMPLIED with the guard cause i didnt want to get kicked out. everyone else was taking pictures, so i figured it wasnt THAT big of a deal.

There is very very little chance of stabbing the guy in retaliation being a good idea. 

1.  I'm pretty sure bringing a knife in would be against the rules.

2.  It could be argued that the OP antagonized the staff, and it all escalated from there.

3.  Before he finished stabbing the guy, he would have been beaten to a pulp by the other security.

4.  Stabbing is a big step up from choking, using hands etc.  It is usually taken very very seriously, OP was on probation = jail time (probably even for
a minor flesh wound, any sort of stabbing)
