Two guards
    #2992433 - 08/11/04 08:08 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

You have been thrown into a dungeon that has two exits; one will lead to your death the other to freedom. There is a guard on each of the exits; one will always lie to you the other will always tell the truth.

You are allowed one question that you may ask one of the guards before chosing an exit to take.

What question would you ask?

So the guard that tells the truth is the one that goes to heaven?
and the liar is the one that goes to hell?

or no?

nope

it doesn't say that, so I wouldn't be able to assume

that's why the 1+1 question wouldn't work.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie

I'd ask one guard, "which door would your man tell me leads to heaven?"
and take the opposite door that's inidcated?

No, that'd make it way too easy.

Edit: To your first question, of if the liar guards to door to death.

Well, let's see, there are two possibilities.

Truthful Guard- Door to life
Lying Guard- Door to death

Or

Truthful Guard- Door to death
Lying Guard- Door to life

So we would need a question that would indicate both whether the guard is lying, and at the same time indicating the correct door.

If we ask straight out if he guards the door to life, in situation 1 they'll both say yes, and in 2 they'll both say no. So if either of them said yes, we'd know the truthful guard guards the door to life

Let's see if any pubbers can figure this out

ask one guard what the other would say about him either being the lier or the truthful.

id ask...what would he tell me if i asked him if you were the lier or the one who is honest?

if your asking the lier, he will tell you teh other would tell you that he is telling the truth...

and if you ask the one who tells the truth, he will tell you the lier would call him the lier

I remember the movie, but i forgot the name.  I belive it was Labyrinth.
It was an 80's fantasy movie where a teenage girl had a time limit to rescue her baby brother from some evil dude who kidnapped him.  It was basicaly an Alice in Wonderland rip, but a good one.  The scene right after the door question was very trippy.  She fell through a tunnel of hands.

Was Archmetis right?  That sounds somewhat like the answer i can't remember.

All i know is, its mind bogling.

After a few replays in my mind, Archmetis is correct.

Think about it.

I saw Labyrinth, that is the plot. I don't remember Archmetis, though it has been a few years

Perhaps I should watch it again and see if it has the answer in it

Not the movie I'm thinking about. This one was about a video game.

Nope. A new video game appears in the local arcade. Somehow this girl's boyfriend disappears while playing so shes like wtf. Then it is released on a console. She finds some of her dazed friends sucked in so she has to save the day. She goes in and faces flying skulls with skateboards, big birds, and a bunch of other crap.

I remember it being pretty good but it was so long ago it might actually be bad .

If I could ask one question, it would be,
"Hey man, got a light so we can burn the joint down?"

I was thinking of something along those lines, but more like,

"Hey man, you got any bud?"

That was just my first instinct though, after that I would try to figure it out
