Re: Two guards [Re: Archemetis]

while you would establish which one is the truthful one and which one isn't, you still don't know which one is guarding which door!!!

--------------------
Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Ask each guard: "If i were to ask the other guard which guard you are, the one that always lies, or the one that always tells the truth, which would he say you were?"

The guard that always lies would answer, he would say I am the one who always tells the truth.

Explination:

Guard A must always lie.
Guard B must always tell the truth.

Guard A, knowing guard B would tell the truth and say he was the liar, would have to lie and say the other guard would call him truthful.

While guard B, who must always tell the truth would answer that guard A would lie, and tell you that guard B was the liar.

I think thats how it goes.

CF--That'd tell you which knight you were talkin to but not which way went out...

Here's what I'd ask him:

"Are you a knight that guards the doorway leading out of here?"

If he is the liar he will be forced to either say... "no i'm not a knight, but i guard the way out" so you take the other route, or he says "no i'm not a knight that guards the doorway leading out." so you take his route.

And if he's the truthful one he'll say "yes i'm a knight that does/doesn't guard the way out."

By acknowledging that he is or isn't a knight you'll know whether he's telling the truth or not about which path he guards the door to.

And I'd be free! wee!
