I am not syaing the fact that the movie was in Spanish means it has to be bad.
In fact some of my friends have commented on the fact that I watch a lot of foreign movies.

One of my most favorite movies is in a Portugese Spanish patois. Cuidad De Deus.

I am just saying they all caused a huge fuss over us getting the movie. There was just a lot of bad energy associated with this movie. That is all. I should have been more attuned to the energies floating around and ixnayed the whole thing. But alas, I din't, plus it was my friend who wanted to buy the movie, so we did, and were both really dissappointed.

All things aside, it was kinda a cool, the latin dialogue and such. The movie sucked.

Didn't like Pan's Labrynth very much but for pretty much the opposite reasons everyone else seemed to dislike it.

I thought the fantasy segments were a little dumb whereas the portions of the movie that took place in the real world were very well done.

It seems like most people were disappointed because they thought it was going to be another lord of the rings when in reality it was historical and political and challenging.

Historical and Poltical and Chanllenging?

It should have been two separate movies. Cause ineffect that is exactly what it was. The whole thing about the Reds and the Spanish army and their strife was so that the little girl could be killed in the end. It was a clunky and clumsy way to effect a simple death, it was a fantasy movie, they could have employed fantastic means to institute her death.

IMHO

Well that's cool but I saw it the opposite. The whole thing with the reds and the army and the evil father figure was the point of the movie. That reality is more horrific than fantasy could ever be, that the ultimate nightmare is brutality and physical torture enacted by selfish men of power. Cruel men will destroy childhood, innocence, imagination and love in order to create a more ordered system. The fantasy world was the protagonist's attempt to both escape the monstrosity of her step father but also to nurture her sense of self and her dream of creating a better safer world.

Far from being just an excuse for her death, her death at the hands of the step father character is the turning point where she sacrifices herself for the core of her fantasy world, which is simply a desire to protect and nurture her baby brother. In the fantasy world she is crowned queen for her selflessness, but in the cold reality of war, she is just another casualty.

The vehichle they used to convey that dichotomy was strange to me, almost superfluous. The stroy seemd almost too much about the fathers struggle with the rebellion and not enough about her. She was at times nothing more than a side bar.

The Fountain is my #1 favorite movie.

The score really harmonizes and accentuates the emotional resonance of the movie.
