Just watched the new foreign film "Pan's Labyrinth", it's really imaginative and intense, I recommend everyone watches.

Sorry y'all, I gotta bump this one.  It's not relevant and will certainly invoke a counter response to the intention of this post, but this Pan's Labyrinth sucked hardcore.  On an emotional level this movie was worse than raw sewage.  On a technical level this movie was more rancid than week old roadkill with flies and maggots and the whole nine.

I can't believe people can create/enjoy such horrible imaginations.

Yeah i saw it a while back when it came out on DVD. I thought it was a decent movie, wasn't exactly what i was expecting but pretty good. I think i liked the visual aspect of it more than anything.


Guillermo Del toro is the person who wrote and directed the film. I really like his work. He is also the one who did Hellboy 1 and 2. I am typically not into the new "Comic Book" movie thing but i did catch hellboy 2 and was pretty impressed, again, with the visual aspect of the movie.

And deryl this was a spanish movie, not mexican.

I will admit to only having watched a segment of the movie.  All I saw was from the grape eating scene to when the captain shot the doctor.  And a few weeks before that I watched the scene where the captain beats down the guy and his son and shoots the father, by which I was immediately turned off from the flick.  And then to go back and see mainly violent segment of the movie I had a biased opinion.  I have just gone back and watched it entirely through and now I can at least say that it deserves some merit in the area of visual imagery (:thumbup: teefizzle) and over-all message.  The ending really resolved things for me, as everything was put in its proper place.  However, I still think that the parts of the movie that were violent and shocking were just that, offering no supplement to the story.

By no means can I say I would recommend it.  Didn't know this was from the creator of Hellboy, but I didn't make it through that movie four different times (not because it was unpleasant, just because it was boring as fuck).  Can't say I'll be watching anymore Guillermo Del Toro movies in the future.

Well i hear ya about the "shocking and Violent" parts....

I will admit the first Hellboy was rather boring, i actually never really watched it all the way through it just couldn't keep my attention. But i found Hellbody 2 to be better, but most of all just the way the movie was visually appealing.

I didn't really find it that interesting. Maybe that's just because several of my friends really hyped it up and it didn't live up to expectations.

Sorry dude, you missed it.  Conversation was over this morning.  I watched it and realized I had made a hasty decision.  But just to answer your question, yes, i DID feel qualified, considering its my own opinion and I determine the qualifications for making a judgment on a movie.  Just because parts of the movie are visually appealing still doesn't make it a good movie, as is the fact that just because some parts of it are grotesque doesn't make it a bad movie (to some).  I just didn't like what I saw.
