Winter Solstice Hunt - Victoria, Australia (Image Heavy)

It was long overdue but I managed to set aside a full day hunt in the mountains. The region features rolling hills, steeply weathered valleys and gullies covered in thick temperate rainforest, predominantly consisting of tall Mountain Ash trees and dense ferny undergrowth.

Some giant Agaricus sp.










The biggest Cortinarius I've ever seen.








I think this is Cortinarius areolatoimbricatus but I'm not 100% sure. There was a veil around the stem which fell off.










Macrolepiota clelandii.

   





Amanita Xanthocephala. My first encounter, though this one had lost it's colour. :sad:










Some pleasant walking down the south facing slope.







1st not sure. Halp! :crazy:







2nd not sure.







3rd not sure.







Geastrum triplex.







Morganella pyriformis.







Mycena sp.







Brains sp.







From the woodland it gradually sloped into the gully.







I'm pretty sure this is Gymnopilus allantopus.







Laccaria sp. - found at the base of a Mountain Ash tree.







Mycena sp.







Ganoderma australe.










Lactarius eucalypti.

             





Dermocybe austroveneta.







Deep into the unknown.







Tremetes sp. on an Acacia tree.







4th not sure.







Cortinarius sp.










Monster sized Psilocybe subaeruginosa! Mostly found in singles over the course of the day. Compared to their city slicker counterparts these seemed to have stems hard as twigs.

Laccaria sp.










Leotia lubrica - jelly babies!

     





Clitopilus hobsonii - a rare find.










Pseudohydnum gelatinosum - toothed jelly fungus.













Favolaschia calocera. - native to Madagascar, the first reported sighting in Australia was in 2006.










Mycena sp.







Marasmius alveolaris. - stem thin as a hairline.







Stereum ostrea.










5th not sure.













Maybe Laccaria lateritia.







Mycena sp.

           



Lastly, a Eucalyptus tree with some serious bark issues. :eek:

Can I ask what specific settings you used on your cam? (Specifically white balance, exposure, and mode sub-settings)? Thanks for posting this.

The leech attacks and rain were worth it LM those shots are amazing.  That first scenery shot is just WOW.

3. Could be a Collybia sp., maybe C. butyracea

4. Looks like it could be in the Calocera genus. I found a bunch like that on a log last week. Only like 100mm in eight.

nice shots man!!!  in regards to the subaeruginosas i believe they grow large stems like that because they have to grow through the thick layer of bark and leaf litter, i have found the same thing happen down here in tassie :laugh:

White balance and exposure is always on Auto. The function I use most is +/- Exposure Compensation to bracket my shots. Second from that is aperture size, I generally hang around the F16 mark and adjust accordingly. If I'm not too worried about shooting with shallow depth of field then I will switch entirely to Auto.

I don't have a tripod so most shots are done with the in-built flash.

Specifically for for small fungi I will switch the ISO to 100 (for minimal grain) and use flash, then I will reduce the aperture size to F29 for maximum sharpness.

That's about it really. :smile2:

That's true. They also receive less light and don't have to contend with any wind.

That's what the most recent photo that he posted is. If you use Opera as your web browser, you can right click one of the photos and hit properties and it tells you all this info.

No problem, mate. My camera saves that information in its images, as well, but I'm sure not all cameras do and some editing software probably removes it. Still, it's a bloody useful feature. I'm not surprised it's implemented in Opera, mind. There's probably a 3rd party add-on for firefox that gives it the same functionality. :rolleyes:

Nah, Opera is a million times better. It's much better now than it was 3 years ago, as well. Firefox is a load of trendy bullshit that people get because they've read Internet Explorer is rubbish. I'll give Firefox this - it's not as much of a resource hog as Opera. Though it may just seem that way because I invariably have hundreds of tabs open on Opera and Firefox is just what loads when I click a link in aMSN.

I don't recall seeing any pines, mainly Eucalyptus and Acacia. My eyes were mostly on the ground so I can't guarantee there weren't any. But if anything, I certainly don't recall seeing any pine needles.
