Red Cups! ;) Strange mushroom...

High all!

my dad returned home from our house in the mountain. he brought me a bag of greek oak woodchips that i asked and he also brought me a surprise: two little branches, with three mycelium-flowers on it :wink:

lol

As you see, the color is red/orange-red, no gills, just like a cup. the mycelium is white and it seems quite small but able to fruit.

I put them inside the terrarium with my cubbies. :smile:

Does anyone know anything about this mushroom?

They're beautiful! Clone them!

Probably some sort of scarlet cup...

It's supposed to be edible, but some of this cup fungi contain monomethylhydrazine (MMH) like Gyromitra esculenta. In that case they're poisonous raw and OK but risky when cooked.

They're not worth eating anyway. I said that you clone them just because they're beautiful.

PS. It seems that you're not fighting with dad anymore... :laugh:

I agree with zeronio's assessment - they look like Sarcoscypha. Unfortunately they can't be distinguished to genus without a microscope.

But they are certainly among the prettiest mushrooms. Those are also the largest I have ever seen. Most Sarcoscyphas are only a few millimeters across.

actually i think he is paranoid. my whole life i remember him to go extreme from one end to the other. the last days (since i announced i am leaving him and the job on wednesday) he is much more cool... dunno why.

life can only be better, until i die :laugh:

okee, so i wont eat them :smile:

i made some experimental procedure with them, as cloning never ever worked to me. do you think it will survive a flight up to you? :wink:

Those are Scarlet Caps.

and if I am correct, are edible.. but not very good. interesting texture though.
I ate a handful a year ago, found them in the pacific forrests.
