Hello, I must say I am impressed with your myco-knowldge, I to live in NWA, I have seen several different species on U of A campus "I have to frequent it" any way My question for you is, Have you ever located any P-Cubensis, or Paneolus Cayn, in NWA I have been a amature MYCO-NUT for about 10 years. i have never located etheir species in NWA. It seems you will start to find them down in central AR "like CONWAY, or LITTLE ROCK". There are allways the Paneolus "Hay maker mushrooms" Let me break it down a little simpler Have you ever located any active specis in NWA?

i have never found, or even heard of, any p. cubensis growing here. i don't think they are here, but you never know.
there are a few species of panaeolus that grow here. the only active panaeolus that i've found here is panaeolus subbalteatus. you can find them during the warmer months (may-aug.) in cow fields and composted yards or gardens.
since i was in junior high, people have been telling me that liberty caps grow here. i didn't believe it the slightest until late october of 1997. i met up with some of my friends that were tripping on what they said were liberty caps that they found in a cow field. there were none left to look at to confirm what they had eaten, but the description sounded like liberty caps. you might want to keep an eye out for them during october & november.
hope this helps some.

Now those boletes are bad to eat right? Because they are look-alikes. Hehe sorry I am new at this you guys. But you can tell those are them because they don't have gills they have pores correct? Sorry about the dumb questions guys, but this is fun! -Joey

i went on a hike, searching for some waterfalls today. the waterfalls weren't all that spectacular today, but i did find some interesting fungi today.
it has been pouring here for a few days. the rain brought a cold front, so i didn't expect to find much fungi-wise today. it was around 40-50F.
sitting on a 2 foot log in the middle of the trail was a nice cluster of oyster mushrooms.
i found orange jelly everywhere and also some cup fungi. i also met a cool couple that was out searching for morels. they had no luck today, but they said they found 12 morels out there a few days ago, so i'm going back after it warms up.
it was a great day in the woods.

big score earlier this week:
a little west of little rock, in ferndale, i saw an area that was probably 50'x50' that was covered with chantrelles. i was on the job and we were already behind schedule, so i didn't get much time to pick them. it seriously would have taken all day to pick as many as i saw; this was the motherload. while my boss was waiting for a security gate to open, i jumped out of the truck and picked about 5 lbs. in about 2 mins. right next to the truck. that was all i had time to get. i also found a few in hot springs around lake hamilton, then even more when i made it home to fayetteville.
previously, i had only found chantrelles up in northern arkansas and they were always yellow. the ones i found over the last few days were orange. i've already eaten many of them and i have noticed no difference in taste. both the yellow and orange ones are wonderful.
pics coming soon if i can get my camera back in action.

hmmm....i forgot to post those chantrelle pics. i have no idea if i even have those still. oh well, i took some interesting pics to post today. these aren't necessarily a "find," since i helped mother nature out with this grow.
i found a few reishi growing in my yard and used its spores and some liquid spawn to inoculate these stumps (one was a full tree at that time).
there have consistently been a few growing around the stump at all times for a couple months, but nothing around the tree. so, i cut down the tree a few weeks ago and made a big bonfire out most of it. i didn't end up burning the very base of the tree and left it down by the lake. the whole thing is nearly colonized now.
the stump left from the recently-cut tree has thrown off a lot of mushrooms over the last week. unfortunately, i think the cold weather may be killing them now.
the stump (that was a stump at inoculation) is still putting off some good mushrooms.

Awe Some post ! !!
Hkcewowl Pics .
Nice one with tha reishi .
When you said "then even more when i made it home to fayetteville" I read it as fatteyville - thinking it was a stoner euphemism for a ganjified home haha . I went shroom scavenging in a valley today but found - less than three mushrooms - Unbelievable . Oh well I have more than made up for it now - thank you .

i found these growing out of a dead log behind my house last november. i photographed them a few days after i found them. as you can see, most of them were pretty rotten by then.
these were growing on a leaf pile. i identified them as a species of leucocoprinus.

these uglies were growing from the roots of dead tree i knocked down a few years ago.
