The plastic lid (which one can PC) simply has a serum type injection port in the center. Drill a hole & plug it in.

The other white thing -- is simply a round rubber grommet (with a hole in the center). You just place a piece of tyvck over the grommet -- before you push it in., Then, trim off any excess tyvck off the underside of the lid.

Lid = one you can inject into (spawn jars - or - liquid culture) -- without opening the lid, as you inject through the port.

Grommet w/tyvck cover serves for gas exchange.

If you ever agitate the jar & get the filter -- wet. Simply alc swab it's surface (lightly). Acl will evap in a few moments.

Cover the whole lid & top 1/4 of the jar with double coffee filters, held down by a thick rubber band, to serve as a exterior protective cover.

Plastic lids: $2.79 for 8 = $0.35 a piece
syringe seal: $2 for 24 = $0.09 a piece
rubber grommets: cheap at lowes, no more than $0.10 a piece
polyfil or part of a filter patch: less than $0.10

so, for a total of $0.64 i could make these, and i think i could do it for $1

how popular do you think it would be?

i'd send some to sixtango for approval first :smile:
