Getting the most out of sclerotia
    #12583201 -

when you have jars of sclerotia and you spawn them to a bulk substrate, you typically harvest the big stones.  Once the mycelium colonizes it all, roughly how much mass of stones can someone typically harvest from, say, a monotub?

would it be wise to use a few colonized jars (of ATL #7 in this case) and spawn a deep substrate to monotubs only to harvest the stones in the substrate? If you could cut out FAE and they never fruited, would they concentrate more energy on creating stones?

I'm thinking of using a couple jars of ATL 7 and G2G/Spawning to a closed  5-gallon bucket with a lid sealing it.

am i very far off?

bump.

i want to use 3 or 4 of my quart jars and colonize a 5 gallon bucket half-full.

but this is probably a bad idea... right?

I did an ATL#7 monotub and I got mushrooms not sclerotia. I checked the substrate after and not one stone. I think it needs high CO2 to produce stones. High Co2 means stagnant air, which equals mold. If you want stones indoors you'll need to use a sterile enviroment like spawn bags or quart jars. A monotub would go moldy before you got stones but if you want mushrooms a monotub is great.

that's kinda what i was thinking..

i'm surprised you get no stones from monotubs though, i thought doc said something about harvesting the stones, too.

and at about what % colonization should you spawn to a monotub again? sorry for asking but i've never seen anything too clear.

i'm going to write a tek as i go, though.
