screwed up in making my monotub.

ok, so after mixing my spawn w/ my sub, i realized i forgot my trash bag liner. so i clean out the bucket i had, put the sub/spawn in it, put my bag in my tub and poured it back in. i suppose i increased my chance for contamination, but it could still be ok right?

i was more worried about the uncolonized coir. i guess its not that big of a deal, i was doing it all in open air anyway, whats a quick dump back in a clean bucket? fuck it. hopefully all goes well.

I was sloppy with mixing my coir and I got a few treys that are almost completely done. Coir seems a lot more resistant than grain. There's the false hope you wanted. No I'd say your chances of being okay outweigh the alternative.

i did the same thing with my first mono:lol:


turned out fine:grin:

it didnt contam till after the 3rd flush which was fine with me.:grin:

Pasteurized Coir (and coir in general) is pretty contam resistant, and colonized grains are pretty solid too.  Unless there was a trich farm in that bucket, you should be fine.

you should be fine. i have a question though cause i didn't use a trash bag liner this time around. I just used black duct-tape around the side of the tub. you guys think that will be ok?:mushroom2:

A lot of folks never use bag liners - my last monotub didn't have one and it did fine. There are 2 problems you may encounter: 1)as the substrate shrinks as it dries out, it will pull away from the edges of the tub and encourage a lot of side pinning despite the taping around the sides.  2)As you mist, water can run down the sides and pool underneath the substrate causing it to get soggy and to encourage contams underneath.

Gorny hit it on the head. As the substrate shrinks through the fruiting stage the bag will stay clung to the substrate. Ive taped before and still got plenty of side pins. The bag is a good alternative.
