Loosing yourself in a good book, is a great way to escape reality.

Seriously, I realized recently that I have not done this in forever. I am always too distracted to read a book. I always am planning things like going out, getting drunk, partying, hanging out with friends... always afraid that I might miss a moment that I may enjoy. This has literally resulted in me reading pretty close to one or two books total, in the last 4 years. Sure, I've skimmed some... read chapters of many... but have not finished one. I'm almost disgusted to say that, given that in my teens, I read voraciously. I'm talking 5-6 books a month minimum.

So today, I sat for 7 hours and read a large part of "Finding George Orwell in Burma." Very good book... good enough to get lost in. Its such a pleasure to sit down, not have to talk to anyone, and the only thing in the world is your brain soaking in knowledge from another persons experiences. I always wanted to write a book since I was a teenager, and now I have enough life experiences, even in my very young age, I would like to actually show others the world through my eyes. I feel like I cant do that, though, without rediscovering this simple pleasure...

So yeah, go out and read a book. You'll feel better for it, I promise!

So true. I'm long overdue to get lost in a book.

"three cups of tea" sounds like my kind of book. I'd order it if i wasn't broke ass, but hope to run into it in the future.

I don't read as much as i should, but being laid off has lead me to exploring the library and making daily time for reading lately..

I've just polished off 2 books about the pacific crest trail, and started a newer book of poetry by Charles Bukowsi.

Best fiction book in recent history "Island" by Aldous Huxley, Anyone read it?

I read 3/4's of hit when i was stopped over in a library in Knoxville. It was a good read, although i've over saturated myself with 60's hippie material and am into different things these days...

I'm reading Electric Kool Aid Acid Test right now. Not as good as i thought it would be but it still has its moments.

I'm also reading Hot Water Music by Charles Bukowski which is a collection of short stories. Now that I could get lost in! I could finish it in one sitting if i wanted to but I want to prolong the magic of this book... so i read the same stories over and over.

I read pretty much daily, usually before I go to sleep. If it's a particularly good book, it will influence my dreams.

Lately I've had alot of Wheel of Time-related dreams, because the last 10 books I've read were all from that series.

I love taking the time to really absorb the words I'm reading into my imagination, which creates an infinitely detailed picture of the story in my mind.

I tried reading Electric Kool-Aid, but the style was too fragmented for me to really get into it...

Jack Karouac or Hunter S Thompson are much better at that sort of run-on style, IMO.

I completely agree. Tom Wolfe is too all over the place and gets into all these frivolous details. I just want to read a cool story with some nice, straight-forward imagery. I Prefer Hunter S. Thompson so much more.

I too ready daily before i go to sleep. It's such a nice way to end the night.

Nah, i haven't been getting laid recently but I don't see what that has to do with reading. I'm not one of those guys that goes out hunting for pussy. If it comes my way, AWESOME! I much prefer a girl I can read, get high, and relax with and then fuck afterwards. But hey, different strokes for different folks.

What's so unbearable about reading a book before sleeping?

I don't know why books have such a "bad, nerdy" rap. I think they're fucking awesome and cool... definite chick magnet too in my opinion.

I love films and books though. I love a lot of different things in life. Variety is the spice of life. Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

Yeah, every time I give a girl my copy of War and Peace she never returns it and then she stops answering my phone calls.  :wtf:
