Better Living Through Chemistry(?)
    #12471688 -

So I want to hear from you what what kind of diet and drug use you have found that results in you your happiest. Is it a clean lifestyle of veggies and exercise and seeds and stretching that leave you feeling your best? Or do you like a nice smoke and a coffee in the morning, maybe a bong rip and beer in the evening, maybe an amphetamine for studying or a nice warm spoon for relaxing?

Do you prefer to bob on the surface of a healthy and stable organism or use chemical keys to play with your endogenous chemicals, picking yourself up only the bring yourself down day in and day out? What has worked best for you?

Is there a better living through chemistry?:sherlock:

Definitely feel the best when everything endogenous stays endogenous.
Diet wise, I feel best when I eat more balanced and healthy foods.
The less processed, the better.

Ah, you're a sober one then? How is a healthy life, satisfying?

I've wondered for a while if a life of sober health would grant me more contentedness than a life of easily distracting myself with chemical changes. I haven't had a chance to scientifically examine both states myself but I am having quite a hard time determining through observation.

Yeah, those healthy people look happy, but do they get the same pleasures of a fresh cup of coffee to a rising sun and soft music, or a pleasant bowl of grass by the river on a sunny day? Both those things would be enjoyable on their own, but it is the satisfaction of addiction (physical or otherwise) that really pushes those acts into one-of-the-best-parts-of-the-day, y'know?

Does it all balance out is the question, and if other people wouldn't respond I'd get a better sample for my study. :crankey:

I'm not always sober nor healthy.
That's just when I feel the best.
I make efforts to eat well, but it doesn't always happen.
I enjoy drugs from time to time, I just strive to avoid dependence.
I'll go for months at a time without anything but tea.
Other times I'll smoke cigarettes and drink like a fish.

But I always feel best when I'm eating healthy, doing yoga/meditation, and avoiding intoxicants.

Cycling through IV heroin use and subsequent withdrawals exposed me to Heaven and Hell and thus was most significant as far as creative, artistic inspiration goes.  I need to experience the lows in order to fully appreciate the highs.

Do you think those same lows and highs (emotionally speaking) come in many forms?

No reason that I can think of.
I was just wondering if you had any.

Maybe in the future, but today, the "perfect drug" has yet to be invented. :pill:

I think you're missing the question. Of course there isn't a perfect drug, drugs have more effects than the desired ones and as such a joint would be great when you're crashing from all that caffeine and that cup of coffee would be great when you're crashing from that joint. Mix in whatever you feel like, I've heard of people balancing an assortment of prescription drugs in with their cigarettes, coffee, pot, alchohol, or whatever. They seem pretty content in this big juggle of narcotics, but so do those yoga-esque meditative I-and-drink-only-what-is-good-for-me hippies.  The question is does this up and down lifestyle of recreational drug use lead to a more or less happy state of being then excellent diet and sobriety?

I use drugs regularly to add colour to life and because of this sometimes life seems colourless without them by comparison. I wonder if this is an effect from the recreational use, and if I ate well, exercised, and broke my hold on these substances then maybe the colour would come back without. Alternatively, there was a reason I started using these drugs and maybe the reason is still valid. Just polling about to see how you all feel. :shrug2: :fishing:

Would you care to elaborate on the reason you started using these drugs?

I remember being very happy using many of those drugs. Now, the desired effect is often to be numbed. Alcohol and benzodiazapines work fantastically for those reasons. They pay you back later. Likely, that's not better living through chemistry, but maybe better moments through chemistry.

Large doses of hallucinogens are useful for reminding one's self what it feels like to die, assuming one is lucky enough to experience that in a prolonged period and without pain. And if they aren't, you still wake up the next day feeling the same as it does to almost die in extreme pain over a prolonged period. To this perspective anyway, that was the case.

There is no such perfect drug as there is no such a perfect moment.

Personally, I wonder how many perfect moments I've lost while on drugs that may have occurred if I was sober. And vice-versa.

And the perfect drug WAS invented, then used in an odd film. Then was the pinnacle of Trent Reznor's electronic work before being remixed and released as what it was. "The Perfect Drug", the five-track remix release.

More to the point, there is ONLY living through Chemistry. Unless one is a silicon rock creating it's living bonds over a period of time if the physics is sound. Or without getting creative, this is the only way we live. Through the chains of Carbon and few other energy balls of different sizes. (With those pesky little traffic-light molecules presumably residing in the nucleus)

Also, any "high" you've had is better living through chemistry. Or worse living through chemistry.

It sure as fuck isn't antropomorphic studies of the carrot, unless you take your smoothies orange.

Well there is no one-size-fits-all recipe for happiness--some people can find happiness with occasional drug usage, some find it with spirituality/religion, and others even combine the two. Pharmacological techniques are not yet sophisticated enough to be able to create drug-cocktails which perfectly complement any individual's brain chemistry--were it so advanced, I would think that most, if not all humans would desire it.

Was life "colorful" before you started using drugs?

Well yes, you stated your reason above: I use drugs regularly to add colour to life...

I don't see anything invalid about that reason. :shrug2:

I've very much enjoyed being sober for about a month now.  Mary jane just got tiring after about 8 years of daily toking - I much prefer to quiet my mind now and meditate as opposed to blasting a million thoughts through at once with a bowl of herb... I feel much more in tune with nature and it feels great.  I never had much of a thing for alcohol, so that doesn't even tempt me.  I can imagine doing shrooms now and again but otherwise I'm definitely feeling the sober and healthy lifestyle.  It's a lot easier to stick to a better diet and exercise routine while sober, which is nice as well.
