Endogenous DMT

I know this is a mushroom forum, but I consider psilocybin or psilocin to just be orally active DMT. The difference between the two is only one functional group off of the fourth carbon. I just read DMT: The Spirit Molecule by Rick Strassman and I thought anyone wondering about spirituality and mushrooms should read up on these sort of topics. DMT is a naturally occuring neurotransmitter that is synthesized in the greatest concentrations in the pineal gland. Mystical states, dreams, and near death experiences have all been related to sudden releases of DMT. Strassman proposes that DMT is the chemical which connects the mind to the spirit, if the separation can even be made. At 42 days a fetus' sexuality is determined, and is followed by a sudden release of either DMT or 5-MeO-DMT. Long amounts of time spent in the dark will cause your brain to overproduce melatonin and eventually DMT or 5-MeO. These chemicals cause another part of the brain to become activated, so the question is do the DMT like effects of mushrooms cause a lasting effect on our consciousness and bring us closer to enlightenment? Or, do they only show us what we can make of ourselves with practice. I don't like to read about people relying on these psychedelics to acheive these states, when, either way, they are just showing the door. Start practicing, meditation/concentration, and eventually your pineal gland may begin to produce more DMT. This is what the real shamans do, the psychedelics are just there to give a boost.

Dude That is soo great Last friday, while sober I came to the realization that entheogens (mushrooms in particular) are there solely to show us how to live our lives; to be used as tools and not as a constant crutch. Then, while tripping that night on 3 g dry cubes, I had some deep analysis regarding duality of mind and matter and decided that my best bet to get better in touch with my self and my reality would be to define and discover the point at which the mind and the body merge

Here's how I see it: there really is no separation between mind and matter. Read up on a little neurochem and you will get a whole new perspective on what you think your feelings are. These entheogens are the perfect example. A mushroom, totally external, when put through our digestive system and when certain chemicals of it are placed into our brain we feel we are more spiritual. Your entire body is a member of your thought process. Each part changing the whole, and no single part can be blamed for the whole process. The mind controls the body, but if you look at evolution the stomach evolved the mind in order to help it out, so who's really in control here? Something else that I realized a while ago is that every part of our body adjusts our consciousness, and then anything in our realm of perception changes it as well. My mind is nothing but an empty reflection, fun stuff.

ever heard of neo-dmt, i dont really know who they are (it is?) but they write of a guy who ran a course where 72 people locked themselves in complete darkness for 2 weeks, sounds like it got things firing for them in varying degrees. think id rather eat shrooms than lock myself in a room for 2 weeks. i think taking dmt has a lasting effect on people who are prepared to make the effort to learn from the experiences that occur when they consume. it sprouts new branches on the tree, its up to the user to nurture them.

Its hard to say how truthful Neo's information is, with little scientific background, but here is a site if you wish to check it out http://www.akasha.de/~aton/NeoDMT.html . Another group called the www.universal-tao.com is currently doing the same sort of thing. You don't need darkness though.
