buddhism impermanence
    #12439531 -

K I realize the impermanence of things, that they will not make me happy. However im stuck in this loop where. "Ok temporary things will not make me permanently happy." Then how do I gain this happiness, it seems contradictory, things are impermanent this makes me unhappy. How would knowing this truth liberate you?

And also why do things that are only short lived if you know the arnt permanent? Im a little confused here.

imo accepting the impermanence of all thats physical will keep your mind free and in the moment--the moment being what is permanent.

Gasoline isn't permenant, but a car needs to constantly refill itself with it in order to keep running. :meff:

Im not sure I understand what moment means. NVM I understand, not to dwell on the past or future.

Knowing this truth is liberating when you energetically feel it as true, not just as a mental thing like 'okay, everythings impermanent, so what now?'

As that thought & expectation of something is also impermanent.

If you deeply feel that every thing does not last then your mind will automatically let go of things
Letting go is deeply relaxing & therefore very happy, its like being a child again, instead of clinging to things you play with them.

:peace:

Impermanent things will definitely make you happy and/or miserable, just not permanently happy and/or miserable, if for no other reason, then for the fact that you, yourself is impermanent.

The insight that things are impermanent is also just a thing, and is itself impernanent, and for the same reason it's also not something that will make you permanently happy (or permanently miserable).

There isn't any magic in Buddhism, except in the tantric traditions. Apart from those, it's all just plain stuff IMO. Liberation is just a word given to paying homage to the emptiness of all things. Sitting cross legged without the need to move either the body or the mind. That's the liberation of the Buddha. And it's not the liberation most would want, that's for sure. Just my ridiculous .02

you have a misunderstanding about buddhism. it teaches you that conceptual views are wrong in essence, so your thoughts, which only lead you to useless loops, will not help you. well, find out what is beyond any conceptual view. i don't think you can do this on your own. best advice is always to get a teacher.

Focus on that of which you will always have. The only thing which you will always have- consciousness/intent/awareness/being/yattayattayatta.

The fact is that you will never have nothing, just as there is not any one location in the universe so dark that its temperature resides in absolute zero. So let things come and go and do what you please with them.

What Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) meant when he said that all things are impermanent is to simply acknowledge the "everything is everything", circle-of-life type perspective of the human condition (why human beings suffer) ... He advocated detachment from physical things and acknowledgement that NOTHING is permanent....

There is even something called "Impermanence Meditation" where one is supposed to literally meditate about one's own body, or even the body of loved ones rotting and fading away, your house rotting away and turning into sand, etc, things of that nature... As negative as this sounds, it's not meant to be... It's simply meant that if you acknowledge that EVERYTHING ENDS, you can kind of move on from there, not afraid of anything and happy in this world of suffering...
