vehicular manslaughter- this chick pisses me off

2.5 years ago I was working at a deli and met a great group of people.  After about 5 months of us all becoming really great friends one of the guys I'm smoking weed with tells me that he's going to prison for a bit because:

"Last March I was asked by this girl I grew up with to go to her prom and I said yes.  We started hanging out and partying and stuff before the prom night so one night we went to a party about 15 miles from our homes and got wasted.  We were supposed to be staying over there for the night but the girl got into an argument which turned into a fight between her and some other girls so she pleaded for me to just drive us home. Well, it was raining and I was drunk, I lost control of the car and slammed into a tree and she died.  Her parents buried her in her prom dress she never got to wear and they hate my guts now, I fucked up."


Ok, I haven't seen this guy obviously for almost 2 years now and believe this was an obvious mistake and he was tremendously effected by it(He pulled out her obituary from his wallet and showed me, said he leaves it there to hold onto)

Regardless though, he killed someone even though this was an accident.  Anyway though, his sister just called me to tell me this all and how he has been denied parole and how pissed off at the law she is... BUT HE KILLED SOMEONE I didnt say it but that girls family will never have her back again...

What ever natural selection. at my high school there was 15 different drunk driving and driving deaths in my 2 years their. That guy should have just said you can walk home woman i'm drunk!

On the other hand.... I am sorry that he is still in jail and i hope he gets out soon.

I dont know man, thats a hard one. One side of me feels the same as you, he killed someone. However, she got in the car with a drunk person and persuaded him to drive her home. Not to put the blame on someone else, but you have to look at both sides.

Also he seems that he is truly sorry that he did this. Having someones life on YOUR hands is probably something that is not easy to deal with. Carrying her obituary around with him shows that he will never forget what he did.

How can one forget that they killed some one. That is why i dont drink and drive. the thought of killing some one because i was a drunk ass hole would probably lead to suicide.

O yea, it's crazy because 50% of my friends from grade school and high school are in prison now, this is the only one of my friends in prison who isn't a scum bag and I don't feel is a threat to society, but he's gotta be punished, just a shame the punishment is going on about 3 years soon

Anyway, that sucks for everyone involved. It sucks that
there are people out there who drunk drive for fun all the
time who will never get in trouble. But an otherwise decent
guy can make a mistake and ruin the lives of two families,
countless friends, and an entire community. :frown:

I feel for the guy. He never planned to drive drunk, he actually planned it legit, just he got talked into when he was drunk... And drunk reasoning when being persuaded by a chick that youre diggin just never works...

I would say the guy and the girl share the blame for her death, not him alone. had he died instead of her, would she take any of the blame?

But if she wasnt driving no?

They got in the car together both knowing that the driver was drunk (not only that but she coerced him into doing it). If anything they should share the responsibility 50/50 regardless of who was driving.

Not by law. She should feel like shit for helping him decide to drive drunk in that instance, but ultimately he decided to do it and he can't use her as an excuse. He is the reason she is dead because he decided to drive. She didn't force him to do anything.

That is really stupid to say. He let her in the car, he is at fault.

I'm glad he is in trouble, for all I know the next time he decided to drive drunk he could kill my kid. He is completely at fault for this.
