Good video.

I was on a call the other day and there was a dead guy lying in the middle of the room.
The family was all watching the winter Olympics and were angry when I asked them to turn off the TV.

Every 30 chest compressions you want to give a 2 breaths. Just enough to see the chest rise.
Chest compressions should be done to the beat of we will rock you.

Stayin' Alive with a swung beat under it sounds cool.

Ever had an electrocution or quick shock death where you can stand over them, yell their name and smack them in the face and they pop up looking bewildered? That happened with a alcohol poisoning once and the staff thought that was some amazing shit, but it just came to me at the moment and he was OK (w/ support) after that. After I got over the shock myself I thought it was funny as hell - but I bet some of those aides were thinking "magic powers" instead of just temporary interrupt like it was. I'll never forget that....I think I was more scared than all of them and just knee-jerk reacted. Kind of like the old thump but just uphill!
Good viddies!
Not surprised a bit about the TV thing...some people...

Oh I have worse stories then that. Like the foot doctor who tried to save some one from choking by taking his little pen knife that was on his keys and filleting the guys neck and sticking a pen in there. All while the guy was awake.... Didn't even try the Heimlich . The guys keys where still in his neck and he was so dead. Made him sign a foeam saying the patient was under his care. I'm sure ill be going to court over this one

Lesson here is if a dentist or some other bullshit doctor  says I can help I'm a doctor run away until the  EMTs get there :2cents:

I'm an EMT and I've done CPR 7 times in the past two months.  No matter how good you are at it, you will probably fail to bring them back.  Please keep that in mind if you have to do it.

The only save I've had (he was fresh when I got there, probably partly why) only lasted two hours after I left him at the hospital.  The last cpr I had which was a week ago I managed to get a pulse for one minute (funny enough not from a shock but from me getting frustrated and just pounding on his chest).

So, I'm sorry to say... but if it's a loved one odds are they're gone.  I hope you're one of the few cases where they actually make it but don't hold your hopes too high on the rescue workers.

Also, Dr Gonz, you can't legally call it the Heimlich Maneuver either.  Dr Heimlich got sued and is all cranky about it.

Oh, and if you do a head tilt chin lift (ONLY ON PEOPLE WITHOUT SPINAL OR POSSIBLE SPINAL INJURIES) and no air goes in, don't blow so hard you burst their eardrums.  I've seen that happen so many times

definitely worth the time.
Now, what if you're choking and no one competent is around.
My only plan is to jump in the air and land flat on my back.

Wow.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.  My sister is a doctor and she told me she meets all kinds.  One time one woman told her that her husband would blow marijuana smoke into her baby's lungs

Give yourself abdominal thrusts to yourself.  Another good way is to position yourself so you hit the right spot with the corner of a table or hard on a chair.  Jumping into the air hard on your back will do nothing
