I have found it strange how many people would waste time with replaceable material possessions or non-essential items. Things like CDs and players, computers (except for the reason stated in my earlier post), instruments, video games, drugs, etc. just wouldn't even occur to me. I guess I just never valued material things much.

It would break my heart to lose all my photos. I have thousands of photos representing the last 2 decades of my life. And I have some keepsakes that it would suck to lose also for sentimental reasons. But beyond that there is nothing I couldn't replace or do without.

I guess it may have something to do with the fact that many of you are younger. I know when I was in my early 20's I could pack everything I owned into my Honda Civic and drive away in about 30 minutes. Now it would take a week and a huge moving van to pack my shit. I guess thats just part of settling down and growing older, you just aquire more useless shit. And maybe when you don't have as much shit as I do its easy to single out a few favorite items and just go.

But even when I was young I don't think I would've wasted time on replaceable items. I would have concentrated on the things I couldn't replace and the things that would be most useful for where I was going next. Maybe thats just me. Maybe I am too practicle. Maybe I would be really pissed afterwords to find out I really missed my PS2. But I doubt it....

Hrm.

In all cases, I'd grab a change or two of clothes, my computer's HDs, (-just- the HDs -- the information is the only important part,) and my most recent notebooks and a couple of pens.  I'd also take along basic meds like the antihistimes and such I take almost every day.

If it was a natural-disaster or civilization-is-ending situation, I'd also bring along my really basic camping gear -- camping backpack, light sleeping bag, maybe my light tent.  Water purification pills, basic first-aid kit, flashlight, knife ... all of these small items reside in my backpack anyway.  I'd fill up the water bladder in my backpack and take along a few bottles, too.

If civilization is ending, I'd definitely take along my pellet gun and whatever BBs and pellets I had on hand.  No, it wouldn't work for self-defense, but I could easily feed myself with it.

If the cops are after me ... taking my HDs and most-recent-notebooks is all the more important.  I'd also take a couple of moments to cart every notebook I had easily on hand, along with my burned CDs, and toss 'em on a heap with a good helping of gasoline and set them to the torch in the back yard, along with anything else that might be particularly incriminating.  I'd also make sure that I had some addresses and phone numbers of trustworthy friends across the country on paper and in my wallet.  I'd also take my checkbook, 'cause, if I'm fleeing from the Authorities, well, writing lots of bad checks isn't going to hurt me much and could probably help me a lot.   Actually, I might also take along my camping gear, 'cause, hey, forests are a good place to hide.

Hmm...

*Cats
*My memory key
*Laptop (my husband would grab that though)
*Our stash
*Memory box

thats it...as long as I have my kitties, my husband and my memory key (with my stories copied onto it) I wouldn't really care about anything else.

I'd like to add something to my list...and hopefully add it to all of yours as well: a spore print!

Can't go running off without one of those
