Great photo! You've been to some amazing places! Must be nice to be a mountain climber, not lots of mountains where I live
Do you think that I could really carry 5,000+ ci? I mean, I'm just an average size girl! The packs I'm looking at are over 4,000 though, do you think that'll be enough?
Since you like the internal frames, what material do you suggest besides aluminum?
I've heard the Gregory Shasta recommended by a few people. Even though it's a guy's pack, do you think it would fit me? I'm also looking to throw a camelback-type bladder in the backpack and not worry about waterbottles, lots of my friends swear by the camelbacks.
Thanks for the advice! Hopefully I'll get to climb a mountain someday

Camelbak is a must. Hope you have a great time. I'm thinking about hiking a bit this summer myself but I still have a bad taste in my mouth about hiking ever since I got out of the Marine Corps.
They kinda take all the fun out of it when they make you hike 25 miles with 100+lbs on your back. It's not something I really wish to re-live but I suppose it could be fun with a group of friends and going at your own pace. I dunno, you've got me thinking about getting into it now. Damn you!

i'd recommend an external frame if you are going to be anywhere very hot. since it doesn't actually touch your back, you get a LOT more ventilation than with an internal frame. i haven't used my bag for much hiking as of yet, more just bumming around Europe for the past 3 years, but it has served me very well!

well, i dont know if this helps, but i have an Arc'teryx that i love. although if you aren't doing extreme temperature stuff, an Arc'teryx would be more expensive than you'd need. Greggory is really nice too, and in my opinion is a durable pack company good for backpacking. i knew a guy who had a greggory that was many years old, probably about 10-11 years at this point, and he used that pack a LOT.

i do not suggest ordering a pack online unless you have tried it on. i pack that doesn't fit is ok for a short tiny pansy hike. but if you are really gonna be backpacking you have to make sure the pack fits... very very very well. i couldn't find a pack to fit me for a very long time and i've used some that don't fit and it is extremely painful...about 3 days into my trip i thought i should be shot like lame cattle. i'm a very small girl hence my fitting problem!!! i now have a lowe-alpine ophir s. it rocks. it isn't a huge pack by any means but i'm also really into packing as light and compact as humanly possible. you may need a larger pack. this one is very comfy...and though it is internal frame it is off your back because they have a dank aircooling system... the there are two ridges that touch your back and the rest of the pack doesn't. the pack wasn't expensive to begin with but wow they are on sale at campmor for super freakin cheap. It may bend but I dout it would break. Nice thing about aluminum is its weight. Also if it does break take a stick close to the inner diameter and use it to splice the two together. Then duct tape it. You should have plenty of duct tape wraped around your nalgene.
Duct tape works in a pinch for hot spots on your feet, thats if you dont have moleskin.
and also a mountaineer pees clear.

Hiking is cool, but I haven't done it for a while, that and camping...it is so fun just to get into nature it is sweet! ...plus it helps relieve stress for me...and to get away from all the confusion and the hectic city life..but I need to plan in advance to go for a longer trip...
