LCD, LED, Plasma? Which one is better?
    #12061068 -

I'm looking at some new tvs but i'm having trouble with what direction I should go. I know I want at least 50"inchs, but what type?:mushroom2:

LED if you can afford it :vaped:

LCD second.

Plasma fail.

LCD and LED are the same except for the back lighting. LCD uses fluorescent lamps and LED's use LED's.

Same thing happened to me when I played Neil Armstrong in Moonshot. They found me in an alley in Burbank trying to re-enter the earth's atmosphere in an old refrigerator box.

Lot's of reviews still consistently report plasma's to outperform LCD's, although nowadays they are about equal in terms of picture quality.

I wouldn't get too caught up in specs, buy what looks the best.

I think plasma has a slightly clearer picture than LCD but they use a little but more power to operate. The difference between LCD and plasma is that LCD uses liquid to make the picture where plasma uses gases. So probably better to go LCD, roughly same picture quality and they use less power. If you want the best of the best probably go with plasma.

You want a pretty dark room for plasma also.

If you're room is constantly filled with light, don't go the plasma route.

Yeah I also noticed that, plasma screens glare a lot more than LCD ones do to that they have a glass screen where LCD/LED have some sort of plastic.

No.  They have introduced a lot of technology to reduce "burn-in" and it's been almost non-existant for about 3 years.

Nowadays, the practical drawback are that they are heavy, and may use a bit more power than other set types.  However, many still prefer the picture produced by a plasma, due to the deeper blacks and their wider viewing angle.

i dont think a diffrence of four or five dgrees in veiwing anle changes much most LCD have up to 172 degrees of veiwing im sure you can only go up to 179 but whats the diff  and the Glare from any light source on a plasma more then offsets that miniscule advantage i hate glare it kills the experience

Plasma's have a comparably shorter life. After as little as a year you might see some burn in, or color shifts from when it was new. They are better than they were, and many professionals still think they offer the best picture, as least when they are new.

Plasma's are also available in larger sizes.

It's definitely a preference.

With newer anti-glare coatings, glare is of minimal concern IMO.  The miniscule difference in glare, can be off-set by minimal differences in picture quality, viewing angle etc.

Everyone will tell you different things it's best to just go and compare them for yourself in store. I just bought a 120hz LCD and I fucking love it  :awesome:

I've got my eye on 60" sony LED.  I think I may wait a year though and see if they come out with a 65.

I'm also (slightly) considering a projector, but those require more of a dedicated "Theatre" room, and not a normal living room.

I would advise the OP to save up a few grand for a nice sound system.  Everyone has seen TV"s before but not a lot of people have experience a properly spaced and calibrated 5.1/6.1 setup.  The sounds adds an amazing experience.

Considering there's no model number or specs or anything it's hard to say. What a terrible seller...

whats the average cost of a 50 inch plasma?  Would you suggest going through craigslist or just buying new?

I love my Mitsubishi Slim DLP, but I guess they don't make them anymore... People need ridiculously flat TVs for some reason.

My baby is maybe 12 inches wide, but the 57" picture puts any LCD to shame... The brightness hurts. :yesnod:
