Anybody ever donate plasma?

I was driving through the ghetto and enjoying the sights (condemned buildings, young black males selling drugs, etc...) when I saw a place that gives you money if you give them your plasma. I guess they jab a needle in you, draw blood, seperate the good stuff they want, and shoot the water back into you. It takes about 45 minutes or so. I guess you can do it twice a week.

The pay scale for the donater is as follows:

First time: $25
Second time: $35
Third time: $40

I'm going in tomorrow. This could be like a job! Anybody ever do this?

I've had several friends who have done it. I guess if they don't warm up the saline they inject back into you, you can get pretty cold.

Why do they inject shit back into you? That's the part that freaks me out. How much do they take out?

Yeah, they filter stuff out and shoot the rest back into you. I'm scared that I'll get HIV or something after learning that.

Yeah exactly. Donating blood is fine, but just keep it for fucks sake lol. Definitely wouldn't want tampered shit back in me.

As far as that goes thou, i always thought you couldn't do it if you have drugs in your system, so i usually just pass it by without thinking.

Now I'm kind of worried. What if they need to change the filters in the machine or something and they don't? Tyrell the HIV-infected-junky's residue gets shot back into me? Yikes.

I'd do it in a blink of an eye!wonder how you feel after though...if it can only be done twice a week you said? well it's got to be tough,man.
but not bad as a second job,work in the morning,drain in the afternoon,sleep untill the day after and spend the remaining afternoons smoking your plamsaskunk!

There's no AIDS risk. All the tubes and needles come in sterile wrapping and are thrown away after one time use. Plasma is mostly water and protein. The blood comes out your arm, and the blood cells are separated from the plasma in a centrifuge. The plasma drains into a 1 liter bottle and the blood cells go into a smaller bottle. When the blood cell bottle is full the machine reverses and the blood cells mixed with an anticoagulant are pumped back into your arm; you can taste the anti coagulant as it comes in your arm. It reminds me of strawberry twizzlers.

It's an experience worth having, but the needles they are are really big. After donating twice a week for a few weeks I always have to stop because of the bruising and needle tracks. I think that anti coagulant can't be too good for you either.


Occasionally donating plasma is safe, and you can make enough to eat doing it.

I've done it many times. I was a reg back in college. No worries, it's a breeze. Nobody catches any bloodborne pathogens. It's much safer than the trip to and from the center.

yeah, I donate pretty regularly. there's no AIDS about it. the needles aren't THAT big either. I've never tasted the anticoagulant before though, that's weird.. it was always just a bag of saline that was filtered back into me. at one center, they used to inject the saline back all at once at the end, and it was way cold. you could feel it go to your fingers, back up your arm, and down throughout your body. =D

the first time takes a while though, you get a psuedo physical and stuff.

Usually no. They screen out drug users, particularly if they do needle dope. :syringe:

I never had a problem. I don't even think they test for weed. I was smoking weed all the time when I donated a lot.

m00nshine is currently vacationing in Maui. Rumor has it he got rolled by drunken natives and is currently prostituting himself in order to pay for airfare back to the mainland but he's having trouble juggling a hairon addiction. He won't be back for a long while.

They definitely don't screen for pot at any of the plasma donation places I've ever heard of. All of my friends who donate are stoners. One even met her dealer at the plasma center.
