Donated a bit too much blood today...
    #7897999 - 01/18/08 04:05 PM (16 years, 14 days ago)

Double unit of platelets + a pint of red blood cells leaves me just a tad bit woozy...

Was just finishing hooking up the cable at my new apartment, and when I stood up i fell right the fuck down.

I think I'll skip the RBCs next time.

I know how you feel. Gave blood once and almost puked and passed out. Afterwards they told me I should have eaten a sandwich or something first. I'm like "Now they tell me!!"

Dude drink like 2 beers and you will be fucked up! I used to do that shit in HS when the red cross came. I would give blood in the am, leave school and get wasted.

Yeah, I'm always a cheap drunk when I donate whole blood.

Its never so bad when I donate platelets, because they put back most of what they take out.

But they took the whole unit today, so maybe I'll go have a couple of Stellas tonight...

Its alot easier on the body.

They take your blood out and spin it through a machine that separates it into its components, then they take what they want and give the rest back + extra fluids.

Its cool because they can help like, 5 people w/ one unit of platelets. As opposed to one person w/ whole blood.

So you help more people for your discomfort.

Do you get paid? Or is that just for plasma?

I know here in canada donating blood is purely on a voluntary basis, no money involved :frown:.

Yea donating blood and donating plasma are different. Blood is voluntary no money, but if I recall I think you get money for plasma because it takes a long time.

No, thats completely wrong.

If you donate to place that uses your blood, plasma, or whatever for sick people, its illegal to pay you.

The places that pay you for your plasma use it for cosmetics and other industrial stuff. Plus, they do not have to be up to any kind of regulations. You would never catch me in one of these places.

I donate to help people w/ diseases stay alive, not to help some woman fill in her wrinkles.

What type are you?  I'm O- and believe that since I'm so special, I should get money for donating...

:smirk:

I'm kidding.
