casing after straw

I broke a mycobag into two gladware containers with straw and am wondering what would be a good choice for casing. I am letting the straw incubate at 80F for now. I had read in an old post that it is possible to case with perlite ( i have some since i originally planned on birthing the cakes) Any insight would be helpful. If perlite won't do the job i can fork up the money for a 50/50 mix or some coir what, would be better?

Peat, coir, scotts,

The dark stuff is easier to work with than white perlite as you can see mycelium develop in the crevaces of the dirt and you can patch it for a more even pinset..

perlite is white and you can't see what's going on, plus i think you are talking about vermiculite!!

Trust me I am speaking of perlite because of an old post claiming perlite casing was superior to vermiculite. I was hoping to get by without the added cost.

I read that same old post. I'm going to try a 50/50 casing of perlite and verm, or maybe perlite and coir.  :smile:

I use 60/40 Verm and Coco Coir.
This is the best casing material in my opinion.

Coir and verm mixed anywhere between 50/50 and 70/30 has worked great for me.
