Anyone ever sold a car on Craigslist?

I currently have mine on there at about $500 more than kelly blue book value with the expectation that people are gonna haggle me down. ($6000)

I put up a detailed description, and took some really nice shots of the car (after I spent all morning washing and waxing the heck out of it :smile:)

No hits yet.. But I'm hopeful.


Anyone have good/bad experience/advice in this arena?  First time I've ever tried to sell a car.

I haven't sold a car, but my brother bought one on there. Just don't agree to anything if it sounds fishy, just because your excited to sell it. Read over the scam page and you should be set. Hope you get a bite soon!

You might want to lower the price to value and just be firm about the price as it being too high will scare them away. Just like he said be careful as it seems more bad shit comes from that site than hell itself :shrug:

Yeah so far I've had 1 email fishing scam.  And a car dealer ship that called  "trying to help me out" .

He wanted to "help me out" by letting me trade my $5500 car in for a nice $2500 one that he had on the lot.

There's a lot of opportunity to take advantage of people because they have false sense of security trough the website, they somehow think craigslist in an intermediary when it's just a classified ad site. It's an awesome resource but it's no eBay.

My advice would be: Don't leave anything to chance by trusting some asshole that just wants to screw you.

I've never sold, but I bought my current car from Craigslist. Everything went very smooth, make sure you let them test drive it and feel very comfortable, also try and make sure they aren't scamming you (there's not really much they can do to scam you since they have to hand you a wad of cash). But, when I first tried buying a car on craigslist, this guy I was going to buy the car from may have been trying to scamm me, the title had a lien on it that he didn't tell me about, but I ended up just getting my $$ back so it's all good.

Im lookin to buy a car on craigslist, almost got a prelude but it got sold that very morning!

I sold a car on craigslist once.

It was sold in less than 24 hours.

I posted that add at night and some guy bought the car at 8:00 the next morning.
