Say you didn't have all the bling in the world but wanted a good car. Discuss.

I'd get a Prius straight up. I'm not too into cars but a 61/50 MPG with OnStar sounds sexy to me.

Bugatti Veyron
Its engine has 16 cylinders, eight camshafts, four turbochargers, 64 valves and produces 1001 horsepower. It costs around 1,000,000 Euros and only 300 will ever be built. It claimed the title of the fastest production car in history, exceeding the McLaren F1?s record of 386.4 kmh (240.1mph).
It has exceeded 400 kmh.

Well Im in the exact same position. Go to any gas station or truck stop, pancake house, whatever. Pick up the lil' booklet they have near the entrance, which is free, and shows a shit load of cars for sale.
We have this here and its called wheel deals. I assume this is a nation wide thing, it just makes $ sense.
I saw a sweet 66' stang for 4k.
I dont have that money.
Im thinking about saving up around 2k and buying a decent pile. Or just paying around 1k for total POS. Probably a toyota just because I find them reliable.

what do you consider a good car? just reliable? do you want something fast or roomy and comfortable?

Hmmmmm.... If it were me, i'd look for an AE92 Corolla with a C52 manual transmission and hopefully a 7A-FE motor.
High mileage won't be an issue, but make sure it's been properly maintained (oil changes, ignition system, etc)
That setup should give you some torque to work with, and if you feel ambitious, you can swap out the cylinder head from a 4A-GE motor (look in old Corollas and MR-2s) to increase the horsepower by about 30. If you find a 20-valve head, so much the better =)
If you can find an All-Trac (4WD) corolla, those are even more fun.

Anything reliable, maybe one of those hybrid cars but I'm not too sure how reliable they are. I wouldn't buy anything fancy because I wouldn't want to wreck it. If I had all the money I wanted I'd by a good reliable car and ridiculously nice house.

that's my car, the one blocking some bitch in... i got it for 450, needed a little work, but nothingg major.. it has 260k on it, but the engine was replaced sometime before the guy i got it from bought it... it has a lot of power for a little car... it's a 82 subaru gl wagon. I seriously suggest getting one of these, they have a great reputation.. i'm getting 27-36mpg in it, and it's awesome. the parts for this car are especialy cheap too. for example, the brake rotors are only $13. I looked around and even if the engine blows, i can pick one up for a few hundo easy.... i figure to rebuild this car mechanicaly, to replace every key part would cost a max of around $2000 if i do the work. engine, tranny, front end, everything important... and even that is a bit high...
my brother has an 88 gl wagon with a lot less power, since he has a fan (i have an electric fan only) and he has power steering (i have manual, but it's awesome). he has the fuel injection, but if anything goes wrong, like his water pump gasket started to leak, he has to take a bunch of shit off... wherease my car has a lot more power, and its pretty easy to work on... at first, i thought it would be hard, cause it loooks complicated, but it's really simple when you look at it...
definetly get a subaru, they have a pretty good reputation for bieng reliable... check out http://www.ultimatesubaru.net/forum/ and they will be able to help you fix anything with your car.. a lot of people will even offer to help you work on it, if your close enough... i havent done that yet, but they've answered a lot of good questions i've had.
also, the wagon is the ultamate... i want to get an outback, but that's too new/expensive..

i forgot to add that these are usualy sold for 3-500 tops... even though they still run good.. i see a lot of them on craigslist that need a new clutch.. but the clutch itself is only $95.. or you can pay $500 to have it done for you....
